And here’s your weekly Utah Jazz wrapup

January 25, 2016

124 standings

One. This week in a nutshell:

Two. Trey Burke, asked how the team can settle back into it emotionally after the loss to the Bobcats Hornets: Just go out there and do what we do, which is just play together, have each other’s backs. You know, I think if we can start games the way we, you know, come together like in the third quarter if we’re down, you know, 15 to 12 points, you know, once we start getting that juice — if we can start the games with that juice, it, we’ll be pretty tough to beat.

But we have to find ways to have energy from the jump, and that’s just something the leaders of this team — you know, Gordon [Hayward], [Derrick] Fav[ors], myself, some of the other guys — have to continue to emphasize before the game.

Three. Three generations of Stocktons (via @renobighorns):

Four. Quin Snyder has greatness written all over him.

Jerry Sloan:

“I don’t follow [Twitter],” Sloan said. “I don’t even have a computer. I don’t know how to turn one on. I don’t know what you’re talking about.” (DN)

Gregg Popovich:

Five. Jeff Withey as you’ve never seen him (click on the image for the uncropped version):

This, incidentally, is the second time* a Utah Jazz player has been featured in his underwear on this site. Remember Thurl Bailey’s tighty whities?

* Third, if you count this John Stockton shot.

Six. Inquiring minds want to know: Did Withey want to leave the hotel after he got there (click on the image for the uncropped version)?

Seven. Rudy Gobert weighs in on his favorite nickname:

Eight. Unintentional Dirty Quote Machines of the Week (UDQM)
** Matt Harpring on Craig Bolerjack: I get on him sometimes. But I tell you, I couldn’t have asked for a better partner…It makes it fun. It makes, you know, blow-outs still fun. It makes, you know, traveling and this job fun for me. Again, I know I give him a lot of “grief,” but then he gives me “grief.” But it, that’s also fun.
** Boler to Trey Burke after the loss to the Bobcats Hornets: Your juice was pretty good.
** Boler to Quin Snyder after the win over the Nets: Your mantra today at shootaround was “Grind it. Just keep grinding; good things happen.”
** Matt Harpring during the Nets game: You get tired when you’re banging guys throughout the entire night. (H/T anonymous)

That may explain why Withey did not get as many minutes in the games in New York–no juice.

I gotta stick with the Stifle Tower.
They interviewed Rudy on NBA Radio on XM in the afternoon before the Nets game. :)
