Game 82 of 82: Utah Jazz at Houston Rockets (38-44)

April 16, 2015

Let me kick this off by saying thanks for sticking around for another season, or this season, or part of this season — whatever the case may be. Your comments, tweets, likes, help with the win-loss record stats, etc. have been truly appreciated. :)

The Jazz had a legit shot to (exceedingly exceed expectations) and finish the season .500. They just missed the mark, finishing at .463 on the season.

Here’s a list of ways the Jazz DID finish .500 or over:

** At home: 21-20 (.512)

** Quin Snyder, pink tie: 4-2 (.667)
** Quin Snyder, red tie: 8-5 (.615)
** Quin Snyder, purple tie: 8-5 (.615)
** Quin Snyder, gray tie: 6-5 (.545)
** Quin Snyder, orange tie: 1-1 (.500)

** Antonio Lang halftime interview: 10-4 (.714)
** Mike Wells halftime interview: 10-6 (.625)
** Alex Jensen halftime interview: 8-7 (.533)

** Greg Miller not in attendance at home game: 7-3 (.700)

** Craig Bolerjack and Ron Boone calling the game: 9-9 (.500)

** White uniform worn: 21-19 (.525)

** Jerry Sloan shown on home (Root Sports) broadcast: 4-1 (.800)
** Jerry Sloan shown on opponent broadcast: 3-3 (.500)

** Gordon Hayward bangs down (post-new hairstyle): 2-1 (.667)

In-Game Quotage
** Dennis Lindsey on Rudy Gobert
A year ago, he was, he had a timeline for him and us to be championship-competitive, and this was a kid that played 300-and-some-odd minutes last year. So, he’s ambitious. He wants to be good. He wants the team to be good.

** Alec Burks on Quin Snyder
Man, he’s a genius. A basketball genius. I don’t think people give him enough credit for it. You know, the things he sees, you know, the plays he runs, things he sees on both ends of the floor, man, it’s unbelievable.
** Burks on having Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert behind him on defense
Man, it just makes the game so much easier on the defensive end…You don’t want to go in there. You got two trees in there. There’s no point in going in there.
** Gordon Hayward on the Jazz’s wing rotation next year
On the wing, we got a lot of play-makers and that’s something that Utah necessarily hasn’t had in a while. And so, we got a lot of guys that can handle the ball in the pick and roll, that can push the ball in transition, that can make plays for other guys. And it’s something that I’m looking forward to, ’cause the la–the past, you know, the past two years, besides Rodney [Hood] coming on strong here lately, and kind of Joe [Ingles], I’ve really had to handle the load offensively as far as making plays. And it’s gonna be good to have other guys that can do that.
** Gordon Hayward on how this is a “fun” team again
Yeah, it’s been fun. It’s been so much more fun this year to play. I can’t tell you how many nights the past couple years where you just kind of can’t go to sleep. You keep thinking about it, and tonight, even though, I mean, this year even though when we lose, a lot of it is, I mean, I’m fine with the way we lost, ’cause we played hard, we had our–we gave ourselves a chance, and we had fun when we’re out there.

Post-Game Quotage
** Quin Snyder on the game and the team
We were a little bit undermanned, and they’re a awfully good team. And you know, rather than, at this point, for me, to be focused on the result of tonight’s game, it’s hard not for me just to even, immediately, to reflect on what this group has done, and I’m grateful to have had the chance to be a part of this year…I feel grateful to this group, the organization as a whole. You know, I don’t wanna be too dramatic because there’s more ahead of us. You know, it’s not the end by any means. It’s the end of a season. And you know, it makes you excited and hopeful about the off-season and what this group of guys is capable of doing.

Random Stuff, etc.
** People calling Dennis Lindsey “Dennis Lindsley”: Craig Bolerjack
** Good luck with everything, Gary Briggs.

** Craig Bolerjack on Rudy Gobert outlet pass: Rudy, nice job. Pumps it out fast.
** Matt Harpring on how many points James Harden had to score tonight to take the scoring title: Harden needs 69. (H/T @5kl)
** Boler to Alec Burks on his rehab: You said before you came on, in that little piece…you almost had to learn to shoot again. Take me through that process.
** Boler on Quin Snyder: He is relentless with his preparation, and so is his Staff.
** Gordon Hayward on Snyder’s impact on his game: He slowed it down for me, and taught me different things that I haven’t been taught before.

Once again, it has been such a fun ride through the season, Moni! I have loved the recaps, OGTs, the ‘romance’ bestellers, the interviews and all the thought you have put into your own commentary.
You represent the best of Jazz fandom and make my enjoyment of the Utah Jazz much more than it could be on my own.
    Thank you so much!

Thanks so much Moni for bringing these recaps to us. it’s always a fun read, with great tidbits of what the players/coaches have to say.
Once again, thank you, and looking forward to your posts over the summer as we wait for the new season to begin.

I am trying to post so you see how many of us enjoy your post game wrapups. Thanks for a great year of reporting.
Maybe next year Dante can earn the cover of a romance novel.

      Thank you Russell!

P.S. Of all the Jazz players, it’s just Gordon that has a special talent for getting into photos that make great covers lol.
