rudy block

Rudy Gobert was throwing literal shade (with his 7-9 wingspan) blocking Timberwolves shots; Trey Burke had some serious bounce-backage; and the bench was great which is even better than it usually would be because the Jazz were out two starters.

Post-Game Quotage
** Quin Snyder on Trey Burke
We had a, you know, it was a long flight, and that’s, I think he was probably not relishing that when we started talking, ’cause we had plenty of time to talk [on the plane]. And he’s, Trey’s, wants to get better, and there’s, usually you can’t get better without going through some stuff that isn’t as comfortable. And you know, I think he understood the night before he didn’t play well, obviously. He’s got a lotta pride, and the way he played tonight was more than just making shots. He did that, but I thought he really did a good job of distributing and controlling the game.
** Snyder on Rudy Gobert
Rudy’s a unique player, and you could see that, you know, you see it in spots, and you s–that was over, you know, a good stretch of time, in [the third] quarter, and it, you know, he did it the whole game. But it was really visible [in the third quarter], and we were able to convert on a lot of his blocks and times he changed the game. So, it’s something we know he can do. I think he’s learning to pick his spots more. He’s not fouling; he’s in a better position as well, which, you know, when he doesn’t get a block, if he’s in good position, he has a chance to change a shot. I think he’s involved in a lot more rebounds because he’s moving without the ball and he’s not just hugged up to his man. And he played very, very well.

** Trey Burke on the game
Tonight was all defense. You know, we got what we wanted on the offensive end, but it started, you know, on the other end of the court. You know, we got rebounds, got out in transition, and I think that’s when we’re best.
** Burke on his performance
Obviously, yesterday, that was one of my worst games ever, and I just wanted to come back, you know, give my team, you know, a lift. You know, come out and be aggressive and just try to get the win. You know, help the team get a win.
** Rudy Gobert on his career night (points and blocks)
I feel great. You know, and we got the win, so that’s the most important.
** Gobert, asked if he can feel it when he’s impacting a game the way he did tonight
Of course. I mean, I’m trying to focus on the next play every time, but I can feel the team is better when I play good.
** Jeremy Evans on how he stays mentally prepared and in shape
I think the biggest thing is just watching the game, standing in the huddle in timeouts, and you know, just listening to the coach, and watching other guys go out and carry out the plays and everything.
** Joe Ingles on Trey Burke
Trey was obviously awesome tonight. It’s, I mean, the shots he had last night were all good looks. I don’t think he took any bad shots, really. Tonight, the same thing, and he knocked them down…He adjusted obviously tonight, and it was huge for us tonight.
** Ingles on Rudy Gobert
I think [his potential]’s still got so much more to go, which is kinda scary. When he’s focused and prepared, he can be huge for us. And a lot of times, he is in, he obviously sometimes, like all of us, you get caught slipping sometimes, but yeah, the upside of him is huge, and I think it showed when he’s got those consistent minutes, and a bit more confidence. He plays, he’s definitely a game-changer.

Random Stuff, etc.
** If you’ve seen the Minnesota Timberwolves’ videos (particularly the karaoke ones), you’ll know they have a great sense of humor. Here’s their choice of warm-up music for the Jazz tonight, which had me cracking up:

** Don’t know how much of a crossover there is between Utah Jazz fans and “Friends” fans, but if this pocket does exist, this one’s for you.

Unintentional Dirty Quote Machines of the Night (UDQM)
** Matt Harpring on Joe Ingles: Look at the speed of Big Joe!
** Craig Bolerjack on Gordon Hayward: Hayward was confused. He had to go back and ask, “Are you kidding? On me?”
** Harpring on the ticket/pizza offer: I don’t go for the works and all the sausage.
** Harpring on Dante Exum: You know, the penetration by Dante, he’s got good eyes. He finds an open Jazzman right under.
** Harpring on Rudy Gobert and blocked shots: Five came in the third quarter? That’s gotta be some record for the Jazz or his record, I know that. (H/T @5kl)
** Boler on Trey Burke: Trey, feeling it all night, misfires.
** David Locke to Gobert on “Gobertland” (the paint): It’s a very mean, nasty place down there.
** Boler to Jeremy Evans, post-game: You were ready; you performed tonight.
** Joe Ingles on Gobert: Yeah, it’s just a pretty big presence to have him behind you …good thing to have behind you.

Red denotes most recent game.

Love that there are at least three of us Jazz-Friends fans out there :)

I think Gobert is the most exciting thing about this team, and hopefully we will good a bomb draft pick next year to bring this team up to playoff level.
