Game 1 of 82: Utah Jazz vs. Houston Rockets (0-1)

October 30, 2014

FANTASTIC production on both the starting lineup intros (loved the mid-90s All-Star Game intro feel)…

…and the intro video:

Win or loss, so excited for this season!

Post-Game Quotage
** Quin Snyder on the game
It didn’t feel like there was a real good flow to the game for us offensively, except for that one period in the third where, you know, we got some good stuff off our defense and found a little juice…They played better than us, and shot it better than us, and we didn’t guard very well.
** Snyder on the Jazz’s defensive performance
Defensively, there was a number of things. You could probably, there’s some kind of absolutes, that if they don’t happen, it gets really hard to win. And one of ’em is getting beat middle. Probably the most, the thing that I’ve ha–I think suffered the most was our transition defense, which is the thing that we’ve spent the most time on. I don’t know if it was the, you know, the enthusiasm and the excitement of the first game. Some of it’s Houston, the way that they run. But there were a lot of possessions where, you know, I’ve seen our team sprint back, and you know, and show a larger crowd and it, we weren’t as good in that tonight. We weren’t as sharp. We weren’t as urgent. So that, you know, I, the good news is, I think we can, you know, we’ve done that. You know, we just gotta have a better focus and I think that’s gonna happen at times with a younger group. You know, we have to keep coming back to what’s important, and keep training ourselves that way.

** Gordon Hayward on the game
Just didn’t knock [shots] down…I didn’t shoot the ball well at all tonight, and those days will happen. And so, for the most part, I don’t think we should overreact. You know, we still hang, hung tough, played ’em pretty well down the stretch, like I said. It’s just a couple little things that can take us from where we were at tonight, and, to getting a couple more stops and turning it into a lead our way. You know, so, I mean, it’s things that we can learn from a team like Houston, so.

** Derrick Favors on where he wants to see improvements in tomorrow’s game
Just come out with a little bit more urgency. I think we’re a little lacking energy right now, but I think tomorrow night it’ll be a different game.
** Favors on if it’s an emphasis for him to help block shots
Nah, just going out there, doing what they pay me to do.
** Trey Burke on the game
You know, I think we played good for the most part. Played bad in the first half on the defensive end. And you know, going into the second half, we picked it up but they went on another run and we didn’t get over the hump. That’s a playoff team, though, and we have to understand that we can’t come out the way we did in the first half and expect to beat them…We have to have a higher level of focus, you know, starting the game, and that’s gon lead over to the second half.

** Dante Exum, asked for his thoughts on his first NBA game
You know, obviously wanted to get the first win, but you know, we got 81 games left so it’s just about kind of moving on from this and you know, looking at what we can do to improve. You know, I’m sure the coaching staff is looking at film right now ’cause we gotta turn around and play a game tomorrow, so.
** Exum on what were the high points of tonight
Yeah, I think, you know, getting that first shot, you know, was a real confidence boost for me. But you know, I think just trying to, finding my time when I can attack more and you know, get into the paint, you know, create for [my teammates]…I found Rudy [Gobert] tonight. You know, I’m hoping to build that relationship a bit more and you know, find him a bit more.

** Matt Harpring on LeBron James and the upcoming Cavaliers game not being sold out: It blows my mind. You get one time to see this guy come…[long pause]…to Salt Lake. (H/T @its_computers)
** Harpring on Rodney Hood: He’s got a great stroke. Look at the bench. Loving the stroke as well.
** Harpring on Dwight Howard and Rudy Gobert: Howard just can’t get open down there. He is trying, and Gobert doing a nice job of frustrating Howard.
** Harpring on how Gobert will “surprise-dunk-on-over” people: They just don’t realize that he’s behind you, and how long he is. He’s gonna go up over the back, and get up to you.
** Harpring: And Houston is just spreading out the Utah Jazz right now.
** Gordon Hayward on opening night jitters: I know there’s gonna be butterflies on the first night for everybody.

i’m a bit worried that Quin didn’t acknowledge the role his tie color played in the loss…
