Preseason Game 4 of 8: Utah Jazz at Los Angeles Lakers (4-0)

October 17, 2014

The face of undefeated:

murderous-quin

The Jazz are up 24 late in the third and Quin Snyder’s looking like this? As a Jerry Sloan devotee, it all feels right.

Rudy Gobert and Passing
Gobert in July (translated):

The new coach of the Jazz (Quin Snyder) told me that I am a very good passer. This gives me confidence, and now I love to take the ball above the post. I can find guys on backdoor cuts or even do the same on a succession of short passes* or “chaining pick and roll(?),” which creates movement and disrupts the defense. I can make the game easier for my teammates.

Gobert three days ago:

[Coach] told me I’m a good passer, because–-I knew, I always knew I was a good passer, but you know, last year I was always scared to turn it over, and when I turned it over, I was coming out the game. And, it’s just confidence. Like, when the coach trusts you and give you confidence, I just feel good on the floor.

And we’re seeing it. :)

Random Stuff, etc.
** The Lakers were missing six players and the Jazz were missing Alec Burks, so I’d say the injury situation was about even.
** Was anyone else convinced they had face blindness during that stretch in the fourth when Gordon Hayward, Jack Cooley and Brock Motum were on the floor at the same time?
** Lol at the Lakers announcers imploring Carlos Boozer to stop settling for mid-range jumpers and get into the paint and to the free throw line. #BTB
** Per the Lakers’ announcers, Rudy Gobert ate dinner in the media room.

so booz

Unintentional Dirty Quote Machines: Stu Lantz and Bill Macdonald
Seriously, the Lakers’ broadcast team of Lantz and Macdonald are *machines* of unintentional dirty quotes.
** On Gordon Hayward and Kobe Bryant: Gordon Hayward trying to prevent Kobe from getting position, and Kobe, textbook, just kept boxing him out, not allowing him to get in a front position.
** On Wesley Johnson: Boy, I tell you. His “elevator” can go up so quickly.
** On Rodney Hood knocking the ball away from Ronnie Price: That’s where your teammates have to really talk to you on the floor, tell you watch out from behind. Ronnie Price is coming, didn’t even know that Burke was right behind him.
** On the Lakers’ front court presence: Not a real presence yet, but it’s gotta come. It has to come, sooner rather than later.
** On Jordan Hill: Jordan Hill just pushed Derrick Favors completely under the basket…When I say “pushed,” he used his body, not his hands, and that’s the way you do it.
** On Carlos Boozer and Derrick Favors:You’re standing behind a player, as Boozer was that time. Favors did a good job of keeping Boozer on his hip. Very difficult to reach around (and try to deflect that pass).
** On Boozer foul on Hayward: Gordon Hayward met Mr. Floor again, and Mr. Floor, not very kind to him. But he’s up.
** On Derrick Favors: One of those bigs from the Jazz that are gonna be required to do certain things under Quin Snyder.
** On 19-year-old Dante Exum: If you thought he was going to come in any of these guys, and make a huge difference, that’s just asking too much.
** On Kobe Bryant checking back in: Kobe coming. You hear the murmur throughout this assembled throng.
** On Hayward and Bryant and Ian Clark:Hayward and Bryant attacking each other. Clark goes down the middle, throws it up, and it goes in.

That 4th quarter lineup was so white, and the crappy feed I was watching made it impossible to tell who was who…so confusing.

Face blindness – I am still convinced that Cooley made that 3 and not Motum….The crappy feed and extreme lineup whiteness could be at play here.

Been wanting to ask was hayward being left out in your banner intentional? Kinda a bit odd since personally to me, hayward still is the most prominent face of the franchise right now.

Nope, definitely not an intentional exclusion. I made the banner after the draft before the Jazz matched, and I just haven’t gotten around to updating it yet.
