Game 66 of 82: Utah Jazz vs. Los Angeles Clippers (22-44)
22 wins and 44 losses in 66 games.
** Tyrone Corbin on Karl Malone saying Blake Griffin is the current player that most reminds him of himself
It’s him and Blake. It’s him thinking he’s seeing Blake. I have no comment on it.
** Corbin on the Jazz defense giving up 112 and 108 points to Atlanta and Dallas
They’re making shots. They made shots. We make shots. They make shots…Or the pace of the game, a little bit, wanna speed it up and run with it, with the group we have in there now a little more. So, that’d be more opportunities. Now, you can slow the game down, just to slow the game down to a crawl and control that, but we wanna play a certain way.
** Derrick Favors on how to space the floor when he’s playing with Enes Kanter
Hit my jumpers, basically. You know, if I hit my jumpers, you know, they gotta respect that, and you know, that open the court up a little bit more.
** Enes Kanter on how to space the floor when he’s playing with Derrick Favors
I mean, it’s been three years now. He knows what I do and I know what he do, what he likes to do, and what blocks he likes to do more. So it’s just, you know, it’s just feeling it in the game.
** Kanter on Favors
He’s a good person. I like him a lot.
** Kanter, in response to “If it’s not Blake [Griffin], they’ve got DeAndre [Jordan] there at the rim. They’re just so deep. They have so many people that can step up and fill the void.”
Yes. You love that team, huh?
** Kanter, asked if he’s ever dunked over a car like Griffin
No…not even a bicycle.
** Kanter, in response to “You’re going to have to shoot some threes if Marvin [Williams] doesn’t go.”
I know, right? Tell the coach that.
** Kanter, asked why he’s such a good offensive rebounder
I don’t know, it’s just God’s gift, you know?
** Tyrone Corbin, asked what he wants to see from the Trey Burke-Alec Burks-Gordon Hayward-Enes Kanter-Derrick Favors lineup, which made a big push when they were on the court together tonight
You, I don’t, you know, I don’t wanna take anything away from the Clippers. That’s a really, really good ball club, and they’re playing really, really well right now. So, and we’re trying to find, looking at combinations or trying to get some guys some experience against this kind of competition.
Has turning up the defense when teams turn up the defense on you been one of the struggles with that lineup?
Young guys, there’s a lot of things they have to learn, man. You can’t single that out, say one thing. I mean, you see one thing, but that’s not just, one thing lead to another, so it’s a combination of things that young guys have to learn on the fly. We sit there and watch it and you may see one thing and think, “If they do this…” Well, somebody’s trying not to let you do it. If you ever played the game, you understand some of the things that guys have to go through to learn.
** Corbin on playing Favors and Kanter together and matchups against teams that play two bigs
We’ll look at it. We’ll see where Marvin is. See how much we can get back to. We wanna, you know, we wanna give guys opportunities, but we wanna play a certain way, and we wanna make sure the guys are earning everything they get, and as we see what’s gonna give us the best chance, and not just have guys on the floor.
** Corbin, asked what kind of impact cross-matches (e.g. Richard Jefferson guarding Chris Paul, Paul guarding Gordon Hayward) had on the game
It’s been that way all game. I mean, I don’t, the impact, you play what you have. You know? They switch, we may switch. They started two small guards, we got bigger guys. So, I mean. It wasn’t no surprise.
** Corbin on Derrick Favors’ offensive game
He’s getting better. He’s getting better. He’s, when he can get the ball in his spots, coming off in rhythm, he’s pretty good for us. And he’s better on one side of the court than he is on the other side, so we gotta grow that. Now, teams are trying to deny him more, he and Enes both, when they try and get in their spots. So we’re trying to counter and learn from the other side. But, that’s mystery-us (mysterious?) at times for us. But they’re working hard to get better.
** Enes Kanter on playing with Derrick Favors
I would like to see, you know, more minutes me and him on the court together.
** Kanter on his dunk
You know what? That was a good shot. I don’t know where that come from…Man, it was a nice dunk.
** Kanter, asked whether he got a chance to talk to Memo Okur
I did talk to him…before the game, and you know, at halftime. You know, he told me some, few things about, you know, what to do and stuff. He’s a, just such an unbelievable guy…Memo is just a, you know, legend in Turkey. And you know, I just, when I see him, I’m like, “Oh man!”
** Trey Burke on the loss and his development
The offense got a little stagnant. They started locking in, and you know, they threw different looks at us, started doubling a little bit. And you know, that’s my job to get guys going, you know, see where the doubles are coming from and you know, just be that facilitator out there. But you know, I felt like we was right there in the game, even when they went on their run, you know, we got right back in the game, and you know, they just pulled it out…I’m learning more and more every game. You know, coming off that pick and roll, making the right read. And I think we all are. You know, with Gordon [Hayward] having 10 assists tonight, which just goes to show that we’re making the right play. And you know, as long as we keep doing that, the ball’s gonna end up in the right player’s hand.
