Game 18 of 82: Utah Jazz at Phoenix Suns (3-15)
The Utah Jazz are no longer road win virgins!
P.S. Trey’s momma is a proud momma ;)
** Tyrone Corbin Richard Jefferson’s performance
Oh, he was huge. He was huge. I, you know, he’s been, he and Marvin [Williams], you know, the veterans on this club, man, have been huge for us all year long. Doing whatever we axe them to do. You know, Richard, from the day training camp started, you know, in all the drills, he didn’t try to sit out or anything. Just trying to get himself back into game shape, and get his rhythm back, and it’s paying off for him now. And as we come out of this struggle, out of our struggles, he’ll be a huge part of what, how we d–how we are, going forward.
** Corbin on Trey Burke’s performance
He’s getting better™. He’s getting better™. He’s gonna understand, you know, he’s understanding more about what we’re looking for in a point guard. He’s a scorer by nature, so we trying to get some, you know, his scoring ability mixed in with the play-making ability some. And he’s growing. He’s growing every night. He’s learning…We just gotta make sure that he understand when and where those shots [at the end of games] come from, and a time for ’em, so that they’re not too soon or too late in clock situations.
** Marvin Williams, post-game
The biggest thing is, man, I really enjoy playing with these guys, ’cause you know, even though our record isn’t what we want it to be, you know, we still come in and work hard. We still have fun with each other. And that’s the biggest thing for me, it’s what’s most important.
** Trey Burke, post-game
We have good players, and we have good enough talent to win in this league.
** Burke on nastiness
If you’re not nasty in this league, then you know, you’re just gonna get ran over. And I think we’re starting to notice that. (1280)
Trey Burke’s reaction to Eric Bledsoe’s flop, as requested by @1tobeamup
Trey Burke hits the trey to put the Jazz up eight with 1:13 left to go in Q4. Jeff Hornacek calls timeout; Jazz huddle up. When the buzzer sounds, Gerald Green subs in for Marcus Morris. Also on the floor for the Suns are Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe, P.J. Tucker and Channing Frye.
A) Along with Trey Burke, Alec Burks, Gordon Hayward and Marvin Williams, Derrick Favors heads back out to the floor.
B) Trey Burke is called back to confer with Sidney Lowe as Tyrone Corbin watches from afar.
C) Lowe rushes back to Corbin and tells him something as play is about to start on the floor. Lowe and Corbin turn to the bench…
D) The inbound is delayed as Richard Jefferson subs in for Derrick Favors.
In regards to the Jazz’s screen and roll defense, @JazzBasketball1 wrote yesterday, “[The coaches] truly expect their bigs to show out hard 20-feet from the basket and then race back and recover on the screener before he has a chance to score or pass.”
Poor Sidney Lowe. He’s under just as much pressure. He’s expected to run over to the scorer’s table and give players last-minute instructions and then race back and recover to make last-minute substitutions before the inbounds pass is thrown.
Anyway, all very reminiscent of this.
Side note: While all this was going on, Craig Bolerjack was talking about how honestly, it speaks volumes for Ty Corbin that the Jazz were in the game and how that showed the team is still locked in to Ty Corbin.
Random Stuff, etc.
** People calling Trey Burke and Alec Burks “The B & B Brothers”: Craig Bolerjack.

** Hot Rod Hundley (and his lady friend) in the house!
** Diante Garrett tweeted this after last night’s game (H/T @dianaallen):
This may or may not have anything to do him logging two minutes last night and a DNP the game before that.
Meanwhile, he got the nod over John Lucas III today. JLIII did not get on the court.
I like to think Lucas and Rush were sitting next to each other on the plane during this tweet exchange. Gotta love the camaraderie. (Remember Rush’s birthday present to Lucas?)

** Craig Bolerjack: Favors has the ball stripped, then picked up by Williams.
** Matt Harpring: Hayward’s getting to the rim. He just can’t finish at the rim.
** Harpring on Frye: He’s a big guy that doesn’t like to go inside.
** Boler with the PPxP (porno play-by-play): Morris, double pumps, puts it up, too strong, tipped out, Jazz have it, four to shoot, Burks penetrates, in the paint, left-handed SHOT!
** Harpring: Marvin just trying to open up Hayward.
** Boler: He’s a penetrator, much like Alec Burks. (H/T Louis Allen)
** Boler regarding Harpring: If I’m going to put a fork in him, he’s done.
** Boler on Burke: The rookie pumps it up, BANG!
** Boler on Bledsoe: He drove it right up the back of Favors.
** Harpring: Core youth. Trey Burke, coming up huge.
** Harpring on Frye: Doing damage on the inside.
** Tyrone Corbin on the Suns: We were able to, because they were small, do some different things there.

** Boler on Favors: I mean, he was on a blanket. They put a coat on him and rode him out of town.
