Pre-season Game 7 of 8: Utah Jazz at Los Angeles Clippers (1-6)

October 24, 2013

ty-clappingWell done, me!

Game in a nutshell: This was a loss that was really fun to watch, which is perhaps a capsule of the season ahead. It’s going to be a fun ride once the roster gets finalized.

Of particular note were Derrick Favors looking as polished as he ever has on offense…

…Rudy Gobert getting that weak sh!t outta there left and right…

…and Gordon Hayward’s 19-6-6, and the Clippers’ +22 free throw advantage.

Of course, the game ended with questionable play-calling or plays and tired legs, but seriously, we have so much to be excited about (if we get to see this Jazz all season long and not the one from the last five games).

** Kevin O’Connor on why Tyrone Corbin is still in a difficult position
It’s tough on Ty right now. Because two of the guys that we expected to be, really, you know, are hurt, and then the third gets hurt. So basically four of the top, three of the top seven guys, in what we thought would be our rotation, in Marvin [Williams] and Brandon [Rush], on the wings, are, you know, are injured. So, and Trey [Burke]’s out. So it’s a difficult goal for coach.
** Tyrone Corbin on the game and the Jazz’s 20 turnovers: [They’re just] getting to know each other…We made a couple careless free–careless turnovers there, but I thought the effort and the execution on offense was a lot better tonight.
** Corbin on whether Gobert has earned some minutes: Well, he did a good job tonight, and we wanna continue him growing…He did a good job, and he’s continuing to grow.
** Rudy Gobert on blocking five shots and if it makes him feel good: Yeah, I feel good. I feel good. I feel good. Day by day, I feel better. So, it’s great.
** Gobert on whether he feels like he’s earned some rotation minutes tonight: Yeah, yeah. I think, I feel good, so whatever the coach put me on the floor, I’ll be ready.

jl3statsAt least Richard Jefferson is no longer listed as the center. (H/T Dylan Melton)

Random Stuff, etc.
** Around the same time the final horn sounded, @AlexKennedyNBA reported that the Jazz had re-signed Jamaal Tinsley and he’ll be joining the team before the next game. Awesome news for the Jazz!
** Ghost caught on camera:

** Lester Hudson may be on the verge of getting cut, but he still was signaling timeout in case Sidney Lowe didn’t shuffle up the sideline to Ty quickly enough at the end of the game:

lester timeout

** Harpring: Now they’re going to switch Redick off Hayward and try him on Jefferson.
** Boler: Hayward takes the bump, keeps on dribbling.
** Harpring on Favors: Tonight, that left hand is working.
** Boler on Gobert (gif of this below): We sat down a couple weeks ago, had a nice chat. And I just decided, “Let me see just how big you are.” So, look, I’m hanging with him, right? Now, when he goes above, forget it. I mean, It’s scary. I mean, it just goes on, and on, and on.
Harpring: Wow.

** Harpring: Sometimes when you’re out, you’re giving other guys opportunity and that’s a dangerous game to play.
** Harpring on Gobert: His length is huge. (H/T @5kl)
** Boler to Gobert, post-game: Were you surprised you got as long, er, as many minutes as you did tonight?

To close, an awesome moment in Phoenix…Love the reaction of the players and the crowd! (Apparently, none of the players were able to make the shot before Jeff Hornacek stepped up to the half-court line.)

I think those Boler comments on Gobert have to be the early front-runner for UDQM of the year. It’s so awesome I suspect it might even be an IDQM.

I find it hilarious that KOC is talking about Marvin and Rush’s injury like they didn’t already know they were injured before the season began.

There’s always gotta be a reason why poor Ty is in a difficult situation.
