Game 73 Jazz at Blazers: Jazz win on the road.

March 30, 2013

No, really. Seriously, they did!

Al Jefferson played a great game and the Blazers had no answer for him. Mo Williams’ hero ball down the stretch worked. Jazz win on the road for the first time in eons.

Also loved seeing Big Al giving Derrick Favors some encouragement when he was on the bench:

Post-Game Quotage
** Tyrone Corbin: We just talked about, you know, just staying in the fight…winning our share of games, and getting better, and feeling better about how we’re playing, and everything else will take care of itself. So you know, it’s still a lot, a long way to go, but it’s great for this group of guys, man. It showed the grit, and the desire, and the character that they’ve shown to continue to fight and get themselves a chance, and it’s a huge win for us on the road tonight. I don’t care who we’re playing.
** Corbin on why he started Favors in the second half: Well, Derrick had a, Paul [Millsap] had three fouls, and Derrick only had one at that time, so we wanted to buy some minutes for Paul. And we wanted to stay aggressive. So, you know, sometimes when guys have a couple of fouls early, they don’t be as aggressive. So, wanted to make sure we came out with aggressiveness on the defensive end. And Derrick did a great job for us. He covered a lot of space in there, helped us out at the basket.

** Mo Williams on his second half: I was sending a message…[Corbin] sat me the whole second quarter, and he didn’t say anything to me at halftime. So I knew that was a message he was sending to me, so I took it upon myself to come out and try to lead this team and give everything I’ve got on the court and just get back to playing the way I played instead of feeling sorry for myself.
** Paul Millsap: Coach came up to me and told me that he wanted to save me for the end. You know, Al and Mo did a great job in the third quarter. D-Fav did a great job of getting us off to a good start, bringing us back down. So, you know, when we’re like that, you know, everybody hot at different times, and during the game, with the tempo of the game, and I had it. Mo had it. Al had it earlier. So that’s how we gotta continue to play.

Unintentional Dirty Quote Machines of the Night (UDQM)
** Harpring on foul review: Tinsley was behind.
** Harpring: I just don’t think there’s a way Leonard can stay in front of Millsap, too quick. Boler: Slicing and dicing.
** Harpring: He’s getting too deep. The penetration is causing havoc. (H/T @da_breezman, @5kl)
** Boler: Mo Williams penetrating as deep as any Jazz guard in this game tonight.
** Harpring: Hayward got caught using his hands.
** Boler: Mo lays it in to put the Jazz on top.
** Harpring on Big Al: Nice quick hands, off the knee.
** Boler: I want Mo. Harpring: Easy, Boler.
** Millsap on how it feels to be back in 8th spot: It feels good, you know, but it’s gonna feel good, better, you know, once we really just get in.
