Game 61 Jazz at Cavaliers: It still is what it is, man.

March 7, 2013

As I’ve said and often thought in recent weeks, you can pretty much pencil in a Jazz loss if the final seconds of the game depend on Tyrone Corbin’s play-calling and clock management (whether the Jazz got to that point via a thrilling comeback or a putrid collapse). And what these last few games in particular have shown is that Corbin has even less idea what to do than usual if Big Al is unavailable.

Despite the way this game went and the Jazz going without a field goal in the final 2:46 of the game, I still thought until the final seconds that the Jazz would win and had done a decent enough job (by their standards) of closing the game. What do I know…

The Jazz now have the same road record as the New Orleans Hornets, who are 14th out of 15 in the West. Cleveland, which is 12th in the East, only has one more road loss than the Jazz. Yikes.

Pre-Game Quotage
** DeMarre Carroll on why he wants to make the Playoffs: I think everybody should want to make the Playoffs, especially on this team, ’cause you know, we all free agents. You know, that’s the best thing when you’re a free agent. Make the Playoffs, and let teams know you’re a winner.
** Carroll on free agency: I’m just trying to play the rest of the year out, man, and you know, whatever happens happens…I would love to come back. I think I’ve built something here and you know, the fans, they love me. I’m becoming a fan favorite, and I would love for the fans still to wear the Junkyard Dawg t-shirts. [Are you selling t-shirts?] Yeah man. I got the line out. (KFAN)
** Tyrone Corbin on Alec Burks: He’s not a point guard, so to see the progression of things, in being to see a play developing as it’s developing, and get the ball there sooner than later, he does a good job once we get him in the half court set. But he’s not a, he’s not a guy that, he’s not used to the position.* (1280)

* I’d venture that Alec Burks would be pretty annoyed if he heard how often Corbin and Kevin O’Connor and other front office people talk about how he’s not a point guard. Regardless of whether he can play point guard in the NBA, he played point guard in college and that is where the Jazz have had him for a lot of the time over the past two months. Just sayin’.

Post-Game Quotage
** Tyrone Corbin: We have to make sure we continue to stay together and be ready to play when we play.

Random Stuff, etc.
** People still calling Alec Burks “Alec Burke”: Matt Harpring (twice)
** People calling Alec Burks “Enes Burks”: David Locke (H/T @5kl)
** Revenge games either don’t exist (it was a revenge game for Tyrone Corbin (played parts of two seasons for the Cavs); Sidney Lowe (five seasons as an assistant coach); Matt Harpring (played one season); Mo Williams (played 2.5 seasons), and Gary Briggs (trainer for 19 years))…or CJ Miles > Corbin + Lowe + Harpring + Mo + Briggs.

that's my boo

Unintentional Dirty Quote Machines of the Night (UDQM)
** Boler: Oh! In and out again!
** Harpring on Mo: He’s just faster than everybody else.
** Harpring on social media: I know you use it every six months. Boler: Come on, don’t push it.
** Boler: Livingston, if he’s wet, 175. (H/T @edwin_nba)
** Boler, pointing to Harpring (pictured above): That’s what I put up with.
** Thurl on Favors and Kanter: I like their growth. (H/T @5kl)
** Lowe: Our weak side has to do a better job of getting off.
** Boler: A lot of green right down low. (H/T @mac_jazz, who says “It’s the if-there’s-grass-on-the-field-play-ball” UDQM)
** Boler: Mo slides it into Millsap. (H/T @mac_jazz, who adds: “stinky.”)
** Harpring on Foye three: It just takes one to go down, Boler, to get that confidence back.

once again, I will say it. FIRE CORBIN. He is a bad coach, a terrible in-game coach, but a bad coach , really, on all levels. You see his offense is only Jefferson. Now hayward shines if the offense goes through him, but its free lance……they have no system. Why is Kanter not being developed more….the guy is a stud …….he is raw, but he is a force. A potential all star………at least as good as brook lopez………but corbin wont play him. Its pathetic and im telling you now, the jazz wont make the playoffs……..they are the team the lakers catch.
