Game 34 Jazz at Suns: Back to .500

January 5, 2013

So you know what would really show me that Tyrone Corbin is “continuing to work to get better” and doing “what gives us the best chance to win”? Him trying and playing these lineups, which have proven to work and be effective, when he has every guy at his disposal.

Practice/Shootaround Quotage
** Gordon Hayward on whether he has the confidence to play point guard: Yeah, I would feel confident…I’d obviously have to use my height and my length on point guards, but I would definitely feel confident.
** Hayward on his hair: I’ve said something like, “I need a haircut” and Jamaal [Tinsley] said something like, “I wasn’t going to say anything til you said something.”
** Hayward on who’s the glamour guy/pretty boy on the team: Oh, it’s Enes [Kanter], by far. Easy.
** Earl Watson on Enes’ sprained ankle: Enes is, like, 12 years old. He should be fine by tomorrow.
** Tyrone Corbin on how it will affect rotations if Enes isn’t available: Well, it’s another one of our guys down, you know. We’ll miss him, hopefully it’s not very serious and he can get back soon. We’ll just have to shorten, or tighten, the rotation. Some guys will have to play a few more minutes.
** Corbin on Hayward and Derrick Favors: Young pros who’s trying to get better. Understanding that they have to get better in certain areas. They’re putting the time in, and the effort, to get better in those areas…They both understand where they are in their career now, and how they have to get better to continue to grow…They are smart kids, first of all, and they want to get better.

Post-Game Quotage
** Hayward on Alec Burks: We seem to have a little bit of chemistry going. Burks does a great job of creating, and creating shots for himself, creating for others. And I like to do the same thing more than anything.
** Paul Millsap on the hits he took: Two elbows, a finger, I think a knee…Four [stitches]. But I mean, this is what I do it for, man.
** Happy Millsap: I was having fun, man. I mean, our team was having fun. We was doing everything we supposed to do. It started on the defensive end. When we’re getting out and running, having fun, I mean, we’re gonna beat any team in this league.

Derrick Favors monster putback, and Big Al’s reaction:

Random Stuff, etc.
** Happy birthday, Big Al!

al bday

** Poor Enes:

Unintentional Dirty Quote Machines of the Night (UDQM)
** Gordon Hayward: Enes has a great touch, especially right around the rim.
** Derrick Favors on Enes Kanter: He’s going to establish that he’s no soft guy, that he going to play hard.
** Harpring: This is contagious once all the guys start doing it.
** Harpring: At Madison Square Garden, the waitresses come on the court. (H/T @JazzmanJoey)
** Harpring: You just try to keep pushing it down to the floor to get a blowout.
** Hayward on working on his shot with Horny: Jeff’s done a great job of making sure that when I’m on the court, I’m always ready to shoot. I think at the beginning, I was kinda standing straight up and not ready to shoot. So we’ve really been working on that. Also, just some release issues. So it’s been good.

Hey, can you link me to where Hayward talks about running the point? I’ve always thought he was capable of it, and it’s good to see him open up to the idea.
