“It doesn’t matter. Just do it, Enes.”
November 26, 2012
Randy Rigby mentioned in his latest interview on 1280 that Jazz players had been “asked” to hold their hands over their hearts during the national anthem. This led to the question of whether Enes Kanter was also asked to do this.
The answer? Yes, he was.
Unbelievable. Seriously.

Before I freak: was he really asked or has he just decided to do it for himself for some reason?
Or maybe he doesn’t think it’s a big deal.
Maybe. But how would you feel if you worked in Turkey (or Israel, or Russia, or Iran) and your employer asked you to put your hand over your heart as they play the national anthemn every other day at work? Is it a big deal? I don’t think so. But is it appropriate? Not even remotely, in my humble opinion.
And for all foreign players the Jazz have had in the past, they should be better than that (and I still hope they are).
Even if he doesn’t think it’s a big deal, I doubt he would be doing it if he hadn’t been asked to by the team or unless he felt pressured to do so. He certainly wasn’t holding his hand over his heart before the team was asked to do so.
Maybe. I’m sure if it was an issue we would have heard about it in the media maybe? I’m not saying it’s right or it’s wrong. Enes seems like a go with the group kind of guy so maybe that’s what he’s doing. Maybe not. Who knows. Someone should ask him about it :)
