Game 7 Jazz vs. Suns: By the skin of their teeth

November 11, 2012

Individually, Jazzmen played great. Collectively, they were pretty awful. I don’t mean to say that the Jazz played selfishly, which was not the case. There just seemed to be a team-wide lack of focus as well as a lack of coaching adjustments aimed at giving the Jazz their best chance to win, which does not bode well for a team that’s headed out on a road trip.

** Big Al Jefferson, post-game: You can’t have a bad game, and then, “Oh, well, I’m sick.” You can’t have no excuses, so you step on the court, you gotta be ready to play. Last night was just a terrible game for the whole team, especially me. And I knew tonight, regardless of how I felt, we had to come out and win.
** Derrick Favors on his fancy moves: I’m a basketball player. I got a lot of stuff, man. I’m not just a traditional big man. I got a lot of stuff. I used to work with guards and play with guards back in high school and all that kind of stuff, so I got a lot of, some tricks…During AAU, high school, middle school, I used to play guard. You think that was something, you should see my high school tapes.*
** Marvin Williams, post-game: Jamaal’s kind of a pass-first, pass-second, shoot-last kind of guy.
** Jamaal Tinsley on having 10 assists and 0 turnovers at halftime: I was just trying to win the game. Manage the clock, get guys in the right spot and try to come out with a victory…It always feel good to win a game, no matter if I have two or three assists.
** Tinsley, post-game: I think about [shooting] sometimes. Sometimes I should take shots, it lead to turnovers when I shoulda shot. But as a true point guard, I always look to pass first, and try to get guys in the right position to make them easy shots.

* We did see Favors working on his handles with Mo Williams and Chris Quinn during training camp.

Random Stuff, etc.
** The four stages of Enes Kanter getting dressed, a.k.a. Enes Kanter photobombs, a.k.a. Enes Kanter would really like some attention from the media:

** As you can see in the second image, Enes possibly tried to subtly blow a kiss to someone as Jamaal was being interviewed:

** Jamaal messing with Goran Dragic while Big Al was shooting free throws:

Unintentional Dirty Quote Machines of the Night (UDQM)
** Steve Brown: Gortat is just an unmoveable object down there.
** Brown on Al: He’ll get a blow right now.
** Brown on Morris: He was nowhere near big enough so they bring Gortat back.
** Brown: We’ve got to finish a team, and the Jazz trying to finish right now.
** Brown: Big Al takes a shot to the face.
** Al, post-game: As long as the double team a little late, or don’t come at all, I’m pretty confident I can get my shot off.
** Al, post-game: I just went up with confidence. It was going in for me tonight.
** Hayward, post-game: With the depth that we have on this team, there’s almost no reason to hold back. We got so many guys with so much talent that if you get tired out there, push it a little bit too hard, you can come out and get a breather and Coach get you right back in.
** Tinsley on mentoring the young guys, post-game: Sometimes they probably get tired of my mouth, but that’s what I’m here for.
