Preseason Game 8 Jazz vs. Blazers

October 26, 2012

Well, Enes Kanter and Derrick Favors apparently had their best games of the preseason, but it was not televised (a complete travesty that no illegal stream could be found since League Pass wasn’t cooperating). So I can only post about what happened before and after the game.

Everyone else was bundled up in jackets and hats, but Enes Kanter showed up for the game wearing a SpongeBob SquarePants t-shirt. Yes, that makes him twinsies with Memo Okur’s son.

** Marvin Williams: He’s got no sweats on. I woke up today, and it was snowing. He gotta put some type of sweats on, man.
** Al Jefferson: I had to wear my sunglasses to look at him, it was so loud. … you talking about Big Turkey, so.
** Mo Williams: We’ve got a new name. It’s “HT.” Hollywood Turk.

Asked which cartoon character t-shirt they would wear if they had to, Al said “Garfield” while Mo unzipped his jacket to reveal…

Mo and Al, by the way, are kind of twinsies themselves.

Kanter and Favors highlights, via KSL5Sports:

** The Jazz made their last pre-season cuts, waiving Chris Quinn and Darnell Jackson.
** Derrick Favors on the combo of himself and Kanter: We just came in doing our jobs. When it went to him, he scored. When it came to me, I scored…just doing our job.
** Enes Kanter: I love SpongeBob. I watch it everyday.
** Kanter on Favors: Derrick played great. He help me a lot. On the court earlier, he talk to me, he said, “We should do this, do this.” So he help me a lot.
** Tyrone Corbin on Kanter: He’s learned how to keep the ball high and finish high…His perimeter shot is getting better. He’s continuing to work to get better.
** Corbin on Randy Foye as point guard: It was great. It was great to get him the opportunity to start with that first group out there tonight, and get some minutes at the point guard there. It’s a little bit unfair to him because I didn’t get a chance to play him at the 2-spot at all.
** Corbin on Enes and Derrick: The way they can move, and they can jump out on the defensive end on pick and rolls and recover, their mobility on offensive end, they both can step out and make 15-, 16-foot jump shots…There’s no limit for those two guys. I think that they have a lot of room to grow. They’re two really young guys that’s gonna continue to get better as they understand their body.
** Corbin on Favors’ early preseason woes: I think he was tired. I think it takes awhile when you, when you, you know, he, he gained a little good weight this summer, and he took a little while to get used to the weight on his body going through two-a-days, and then he lost some weight, and then you’re a little weak, beat up, from losing weight, and then you level off, and now you kinda figure out where you are…He’s done a good job. He didn’t miss any practice. He’s continuing to work to get better, and he’s figuring it out.

** Booner: Boy, Wesley Matthews is really releasing.
** Booner: If Gordon came up a little bit and made himself presentable…
** Locke: Hickson slides in between Millsap and Jefferson.
** Locke: The Blazers are leaking out. Booner: They will release.
** Locke: Down low Kanter. Triple-teamed and in trouble.
** Locke on free throws: You can tell if it’s going to be good long before it hits the rim. Booner: Yeah, if it’s inline and nice and soft.
** Locke: Burks cocks it with the right hand, and hammers it home.
** Locke: He sucked Kanter in the lane.
** Locke: Marvin Williams holding his own well.
** Locke: The little mouse came out of the forest.
** Locke: Favors slithers it up and in!
