** Jack McCallum, author of Dream Team: How Michael, Magic, Larry, Charles, and the Greatest Team of All Time Conquered the World and Changed the Game of Basketball Forever:
I think I interviewed [Scottie] Pippen first, and I thought it was going to be a throwaway question. I said, “Did you learn anything from the other guys being over there?”…
Scottie said, “I used to think I worked out hard. Well, I watched Karl work out. I changed the way I worked out after watching Karl Malone.” (2)
** Tyrone Corbin, on whether he sees Enes Kanter getting more minutes at the four or the five: Probably the five right now, because of where we are with Derrick Favors and Paul Millsap, and also trying to find some time for Jeremy Evans now to get some time on the floor, the way he’s been working. The Jazz are just a different animal. They don’t go to the Sloan Conference. They don’t play in the Vegas Summer League. They decide what position their #3 draft pick plays not based on where he fits best, but where there are the most leftover minutes after the other players on the team are allotted their minutes.
** Alec Burks, on whether he thinks he should have gone higher in the draft: I did. I felt like I did. I definitely should’ve went higher, but you know, I feel like I’m in the right [position], and I’m proving to the 11 teams that didn’t pick me, that they should’ve. (2)
** Alec Burks, on whether he’s talked to Gordon Hayward this summer: I haven’t heard from him, but Jeremy [Evans] told me that he talked to him. He’s doing good…out there in Vegas. (2)
** Randy Rigby: We’ve had a player from Tunisia who’s playing for us [in the summer league]. I’ll butcher his name. No. 50, 7’2″. And I was riding in the elevator with him…(2)
This just astounds me. How do you not take the time to remember the name of a guy who’s playing for you? Was it really an imposition to find out how your player’s name is pronounced?
