Preseason Game 1 at POR: Blurgh-y Argh-y-ness
There’s not much to say. It sounded like Portland’s crowd was mocking the Jazz with its “Defense” chant.
Everything I could say, there’s a caveat attached to it. The Jazz looked horrible, but it was only a preseason game. The young players–Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter in particular–showed well, but they got minutes only because the starters were stinking it up. It was just one game, but it was also a horrible deja vu trip.
Anyway, do yourself a favor and don’t look at the box score. You’d see that both teams took 77 shots, but Portland made 56% of theirs compared to the Jazz’s 42%. You’d see the Jazz’s 1-12 from downtown. That the Jazz took 11 more FTs and were called for 12 fewer fouls, and lost by 20. You’d see the 22 turnovers, and the 1 blocked shot to 7 blocks against. Like I said, don’t look.
P.S. Derrick Favors is a man.
P.P.S. What is up with Matt Harpring’s hair?!

** Enes Kanter, post-game: It doesn’t matter who I play against, I’m just gonna go hard.
** Ty Corbin, post-game: Enes was big. He got some good position inside…He did what he do. He’s a big body that like contact and he moved some guys around. I thought he got a little tired there, and it could be some anxiety, but I thought his effort was pretty good for the most part. (Trib)
