Andrei Kirilenko and CSKA Moscow: Week of 11/21

November 28, 2011

Last weekly CSKA update?

CSKA won both its Euroleague game of the week against Zalgiris Kaunas on Wednesday and its Russian Professional Basketball League game against UNICS on Saturday. UNICS is the only team that plays in all three of the same leagues as CSKA.

The first win, 95-82, ensured CSKA a place in the Euroleague Top 16 (Playoffs). The second win, 78-67, kept CSKA undefeated (4-0) in the PBL. With these two, CSKA has won 14 straight.

AK obviously didn’t play in either game due to last week’s carnage, and apparently his dislocated shoulder, rather than his broken nose, is the body part that is requiring more healing time.

In the second game, CSKA had Andrei on the call for the entire second quarter. Given that the “tentative” end of the lockout had been announced just hours earlier, it was maddening not being able to understand a single word he was saying except for the “thank you” exchanged with CSKA’s color analyst at the very end.

Thankfully, his nose, having been reset, is no longer “next to his ear” (as described by the wife of the player that accidentally caused the injury last week). I had been secretly hoping that having to wear a mask to play/practice would necessitate a haircut (yes, I know that makes no sense), but no such luck.
