Eurobasket Semifinals: Russia vs. France

September 18, 2011

Russia lost. Boo.

The game was close, with neither team having more than a 5-point lead in the first half. At the break, Andrei Kirilenko led Russia in points, rebounds, assists, and steals.

AK got called for his 2nd and 3rd fouls in quick successsion 3 minutes into the 2nd half. At that point, the game was tied. With AK on the bench, France went on a 13-5 (including 8-0) run. After that, the game just gradually slipped out of Russia’s grasp. They got to within 5 with 3:36 left on a trey by Andrei, but in the end Russia didn’t have enough and AK fouled out with 23 seconds remaining.

Andrei’s line: 21 points (8-11), 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals in 32 minutes.

Never see as much skin in Eurobasket as you do with the French team…

…and never see the Russians in such disarray of dress as you do when they’re playing the French team.

Having been a Sloanee for 10 9.5 years, AK has been one of the best in the tournament at keeping his jersey tucked in. (Side Note: Having been a Sloanee for 19 18.5 years, untucked jerseys irk me needlessly.) AK was no match for Tony Parker’s machinations, however:

Coincidentally or not, Parker and Noah were involved in each of those instances.
