European NBA Players….back when they were mere babes

August 29, 2011

The best thing about Eurobasket‘s website is the galleries they have for participating players. The pictures often go back as far as the players’ U[nder]-16 and U[nder]-18 tourney days, which for some means frosted tips, pimples, unibrows, and/or awkward adolescent lankiness.

Jazzmen up first. Mehmet Okur (2001; 22 years old):

Andrei Kirilenko (2001; 20 years old):

Kyrylo Fesenko (2005; 18 years old):

Enes Kanter (2007; 15 years old):

(FYI, Kanter played on both Turkey’s U-16 and U-18 teams in 2008 and dominated, averaging 23 points and 16.5 boards / 19 points and 14.6 boards, respectively.)

Next up: Former Jazzmen. Kostantinos Koufos (2007; 18 years old):

Gordan Giricek (2005):

Raul Lopez (2001):

A Jazz-owned-man. Ante Tomic (2005):

Finally, let’s look at some NBA players. The Most Unrecognizable Award goes to Marc Gasol (2002 and 2004). Yep, he was the fat kid in class.

Speaking of that particular gene pool, here’s Pau Gasol (2001). His gallery is pretty interesting, because it allows you to see exactly when he started making enough money that grooming became a waste of time.

Dirk Nowitzki (1999) and Hedo Turkoglu (2001):

Lastly, we have Marco Bellinelli starring in some campy foreign baskethero comedy (2004):

Love it. Always appreciate the unique pieces you bring to the table.
