Bits from Paul Millsap Interview

August 11, 2011

An actual Jazz-related post! Granted it’s only been about a week but I feel like I’ve turned into a European basketball fan. After this, though, I only foresee more Euro-related posts for the foreseeable future. *sigh*

What he’s been up to this summer
Been having fun. Still been working out. Gotta stay on top of my game, but I been vacationing with the family, hanging around Salt Lake, going back home, just here and there, just having fun.

On trade rumors
I’d like to say it didn’t bother me at all, but I’d be lying if I said that. … I try not to get myself too bent out of shape about things like that, so I continue to try to work hard and do the best that I can [in areas] I can control.

If Ty Corbin asked you to come off the bench…
As of now, I have no comment on that. I don’t really want to talk about that because that’s not really a scenario for me at this point. My thing is to start next year, hopefully start, and just do the best I can.

Heaved a sigh hearing that. Here we go again.

On Al Jefferson and Derrick Favors
Those two guys are great people, first off, off the court they’re good people. On the court, these guys work hard. They’re excellent players. Big Al has come a long way and he’s continued to grow. He’s been working pretty hard over this summer, and it’s gonna be interesting to see what he do next year. Derrick Favors, he’s young, still got a lot of maturing to do, but when he do, it’s gonna be exciting to see.

Who would win the Utah Jazz All-Star Challenge
Dunk contest, for sure, definitely Jeremy Evans. Skills challenge? I don’t know. We got a lot of skillful guys…I put Gordon in there, Devin Harris, I even put Ronnie Price in there… 3-point shooting contest? I’ll probably have to give it to CJ or myself.

Miracle in Miami
It shocks me to this day what happened during the course of that game. At that point in the season, that showed where our heart was, our team, to fight back in Miami. I think that was exciting, that was big for our team at the time. I haven’t really gave it much thought, but every time I look at it, it’s still a shocker to me.

Have you talked to Jerry?
I haven’t. Jerry, he kind of disappeared on us. Didn’t really see him at all after that.

On playing overseas
I’d consider it. I can’t see myself not playing basketball this year in an organized setting, so of course I got offers, but will I take it? Who knows? We gotta wait and see what happen. (via KALL)

Ah, Pauly…so torn on this. Love the guy and obviously he’s earned the right to start. I was so pissed when he got benched after Carlos’ return. But I’m also a believer in sacrificing your own desires for the sake of the team – and in some cases that might mean him coming off the bench.

I wish I could be more upset about Paul’s words, but I’m not. He deserves every right to start and I realize what a pickle that puts us in. I agree about sacrifice for the team as well. I really would just be so unhappy to see him sitting the bench. I kind of have a huge crush on him, so I’m a bit bias.

It kind of reminds me when Malone went to the Lakers. As all true Jazz fans I HATE THE LAKERS. But I also understood his desire to get a championship and respected that. And I also had a big crush on him.

There must be a pattern here.

I’m a bit biased too – he’s the only player whose jersey I would ever wear :)

He’s the only jersey I own, although I almost bought a Favors jersey last season. I couldn’t however because I felt like a slight traitor. I do hope he plays somewhere just so I can watch him.

why would he say he is ok coming off the bench? who is going to start over him? favors he has done nothing to deserve starting what alone over millsap. kanter a rookie that hasent played for two years right. i dont get all the talk about millsap getting traded or coming off the bench. you have to earn a spot wich he has. favors has made about 3 dunks lets give him a starting job and into the hall of fame. same writers writing this crap put millsap at 46 of the best players in the nba. jefferson 53 favors some reason at not on list. oh thats right hasent done anything yet. be major problem millsap traded and favors dosent pan out. money on kanter doing nothing.
