Should be careful what I wish for…
Yesterday, I was complaining about the nonexistent nature of Jazz-related news at the moment. Today, Greg Miller appeared on SportsBeat Sunday and was “chilly” (according to KSL) about the prospect of re-signing AK. Think I would’ve preferred the continuation of no news.
** [Tom Kirkland: AK, one of Larry’s favorites, told us a couple of weeks ago there is a home team discount…What do you see, looking down the road, at Andrei Kirilenko?] I think Andrei’s a real gentleman and he’s an exciting player to watch. I think he really helps the Jazz when he’s on the floor. I have to be honest with you, I have some concerns about his durability and his ability to play through some injuries. I’m not a doctor, obviously. I’m not one to pass judgment on that, but when I watch him as a fan sometimes, I wonder if he should be dressed and playing when he’s sitting on the sidelines.
Asking in a rational tone of voice: Isn’t the first part of that last sentence (“I’m not going to pass judgment”) in direct contradiction with the rest of it?
** “David Stern asked me an interesting question when I went [to] my first meeting as an NBA governor. He said, ‘Your mom can still fire you, right?’ And I said, ‘That’s right.’ And he said, ‘I’m glad we understand that.’ She’s the chairman [and] I’m the CEO, but I appreciate the fact that she gives me an opportunity to make the decisions and I try not to misplace that trust.”
** [on Gail’s role in the Deron trade] Actually, we committed to that [trade] before she had a chance to hear about it. The meeting came together rather hastily. We were unable to reach her, and as soon as the meeting was over I called her to bring her up to speed and she was shocked…But once I explained to her that it would preserve the value that was in Deron Williams’ contract for a couple of years to come, then it made sense to her and she blessed it but it was after the fact. We would’ve been in trouble if she’d said, “No, we’re not doing this.”
** [on CJ’s option] CJ is one who’s very exciting to watch when he’s on. I’m concerned about his inconsistency. Hopefully with him, more minutes and more experience will help him mature through that because when he’s on, he’s very exciting and he adds a dimension to our team that makes us better.
** [on draft goals] We want to get bigger, and we want to improve our shooting.
