Game 73 vs. NOH: Below. 500

Well. For a while in the fourth quarter there, the Jazz actually looked like the Jazz. Lately, watching games always makes me feel like I’m getting punked, or like I’m watching a Globetrotters game and rooting for the Generals. But for a stretch there–in large part because Paul Millsap turned into a warlock from one of Fes’ Russian science fiction novels late in the game–we were actually executing and looking like our old selves. Good times.

The game probably came down to that Millsap free throw at the end of regulation. Instead of going for a miss with 1 second left to run out the clock, he hit it which led to the Okafor shot that tied the game. Ty Corbin said after the game he probably should have told Sap to miss it. Ah well. To quote what has become the Jazz slogan this season: “It is what it is.”

Depressing Number Crunching:

We fell below .500 on the season today.* If the play/results of the post-Deron-trade Jazz were extrapolated over an entire season, we would be a 26-win team.

*2004’s .500 team >>> 2011’s .500 team. I feel like I’m becoming an old person sitting in a rocking chair, ignoring present day and reminiscing about the good ol’ days. The 2004 team might not have made the Playoffs, but they were one of my favorite Jazz teams ever. They won 42 games with nothing but Jerry, AK, heart, and grit.

Random Happening:

Random Question: So we know the NBA owns the Hornets, but is the league office as cheap as Donald Sterling? I ask because it was odd to me that when David West went down, it was the Jazz training staff that tended to him and wheeled him off the court. Do the Hornets not have a training staff?
