Game 10 @CHA: motherfrickinridiculous

November 14, 2010

Have you ever been ecstatic and outraged at the same time? Have you ever wanted to jump for joy and punch the wall at the same time? Welcome to my world.

You can’t go down by double digits any quicker than 10-0, and that’s exactly what the Jazz did. For shame. Our ex-draft pick “Nazzie” Mohammed went all Kevin Love on us and collected 5 points, 9 boards, and 3 blocks in the first quarter while we were barely in the arena. The Jazz needed until 38 seconds left in the first to get into double digits and managed just a paltry 33 for the half.

It took the Jazz until 2:30 left in the game to take their first lead on a Big Al hoop and harm. The game would have been more exciting if it hasn’t been so ugly. I don’t know whether it was because the game was so ugly, or all the heart attacks over the past week had finally caught up to me, but I couldn’t watch the end of the game and instead tuned into the radio stream (Locke’s call was fantastic on the last plays–he was hoarse from screaming and it was just great).

After Al gave the Jazz a 1-point lead, the Bobcats scored the next four points. And then it was STOP–Ninja Time. Deron dished to Big Al for a jumper with 45 seconds left, blocked Augustin at the other end with 24 seconds left, and then hit the game winner with 0.8 seconds left. The Jazz came back from 19 down, and won by one. My hair is all white, my stomach has eaten itself, and my heart is a mere, exhausted shadow of what it once was.

Dear Deron,
Please go back to being Full Game Ninja. No more Second Half Ninja…

Random Notes
**Another East Coast road game, another sadly desolate empty arena:

**AK only made 1-3 three point attempts tonight (I cannot believe that I just said “only” there), but going into this game he was tied for third in the league in 3PT% at…(drumroll)…61.1%. What the what?!

Unintentional Dirty Quote Machine of the Night

A big key to both the Atlanta and Charlotte wins were defensive switches in the fourth quarters. Joe Johnson was killing Raja Bell all night and I was hoping that Sloan would finally make a smart move and switch AK on to him and luckily he did and Johnson went scoreless in the 4th quarter. Joe Johnson is exactly the type of player that AK can guard really well. AK doesn’t have the lateral quickness anymore to stay with speedy guards but against guys like Johnson who uses his shooting and strength to score, he can shut them down with his size. Same with Stephen Jackson in the fourth tonight. He absolutely owns Jackson. AK pretty much destroyed him in the playoff series against Golden State a couple of years ago and it makes sense. Ak does his best work against guys that are not quick enough to beat him off the dribble and not tall enough to shoot over him. I just wish Sloan would have made the switches earlier in the game. I also wish that AK would actually jump and try to make weak side blocks. He never jumps anymore. Its like he has been yelled at by Sloan too much for leaving his man to gamble for blocks and now he just watches people score. How does a former shot blocker have NO fouls for the last 2 games? I think he is playing well but I like the old crazy AK as opposed to this controlled, tame version.

I’m hoping that once the new guys are fully incorporated, we’ll see the “old” AK again. That AK was around for a good stretch of last season (Jan-Mar, before he got hurt), so I’m optimistic.

For the time being, I just wish he would dunk the ball instead of laying it up (and often missing) and trying to get the foul.
