Stockton-to-Malone Week: Stockton’s last post-game press conference and retirement announcement

Days from now, Karl Malone will join John Stockton and Jerry Sloan in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Let’s fete and honor the greatest duo in NBA history with Stockton-to-Malone Week. S2M Week is brought to you by my digital pack ratting, est. circa 1995.

Two days ago, I posted video of Stockton-to-Malone’s last moments on the court together and the standing ovation they received from the Arco Arena crowd. Today, we have:

–The moments immediately following the final buzzer of that game, i.e. Kings players shaking hands with/hugging Stockton (note that the camera just follows Stockton around the court. How did they know???)
–The last time Stockton ever ran off the court into the tunnel and locker room (it hurts).
–The Morgan Jewelers Play of the Game, which was the Arco crowd’s aforementioned ovation (shown from a different angle).
–Stockton’s last time at the post-game podium (they kept asking him questions about whether he was going to retire. How did they know??? I realize that he’d played 19 years and was already 41 years old at the time, but I was still completely tsunami’ed when Stock announced his retirement days later).
-KSL’s coverage (“Jazz fans will never again hear ‘Stockton to Malone!'”) of Stock’s locker room cleanout retirement announcement* (“I think I’m finished”), and reactions from Greg Ostertag, a very emotional Larry H. Miller, and Karl Malone.

*It was a huge, major, era-ending announcement, but in typical Stockton fashion it was almost more of a throw-away comment than an announcement. Lebron James, Phil Jackson, and Vanessa Bryant are rolling over in their graves.
