The Long and Short of It Odds and Ends: The Short
1. WHOA. With Koufos’ departure, the Jazz have only one player remaining–Deron Williams– from their 12 first-round draft picks between 2000 and 2009. (sltrib)
2. Via @tribjazz:
…And, it’s done. Ronnie Brewer, Kyle Korver, and Carlos Boozer will be playing for Utah Jazz East next season with Jerry Sloan’s retired jersey hanging high above their heads. Former Jazzman Devin Brown is also on the squad. With Brad Miller having signed with the Rockets and both of Chicago’s backup PGs being free agents, may I suggest rounding out the roster with Jarron Collins and Dee Brown?
3. Why did KOC inform the Blazers that the Jazz wouldn’t be matching for Wesley Matthews if Raja Bell passes his physical? I know it’s 99% a foregone conclusion at this point, but given Portland’s deplorable behavior over the past two summers, I wouldn’t have said a thing to them until the last possible second.
4. Fun fact: According to KOC, Raja Bell’s agent, Herb Rudoy, used to be Jerry’s agent. The man must be ancient. ;-)
5. Finally, I think the Miller Family (ponying up the $$) and KOC (getting it very, very, very quietly done) deserve an appreciative round of applause.
