The New Utah Jazz Logo is Here: Pictures Galore!
Per Siler, the Jazz “were advised by branding experts to retain the mountain logo after having used it for 14 years already.” Also per Siler, the logo change means that the Jazz will not be wearing any throwbacks or alternates next season (farewell for now, near-invincible green throwbacks and fond Sundiata moment memories).
The new uniforms won’t be unveiled until August 15th, but player tees in various colors are now available at fanzz.com and utahjazzstore.com:
T-shirts with the new logo (mostly J-note but some mountain) are also available in other colors and designs, including a Stockton T featuring a J-note stuck somewhere between the original and the new. I’m quite partial to the black one myself:
More from Siler:
My opinion? My first thought when I initially heard the color combo of blue+yellow+green was “ick,” but–maybe this is the homer fan in me–the J-note is growing on me. Stock’s endorsement doesn’t hurt either: “Having the ‘note’ back puts a smile on my face,” Stockton said. “As the team moves forward toward bigger and better things, it reminds us where we came from.” (sltrib)
I do hope, however, that the HORRID gray outline it’s got going on is only there because the background is white, and that the outline–if there has to be an outline–is actually white like it is in the picture of the logo board. I also sincerely hope that players names and numbers on the actual jerseys won’t be different colors like they are in the white T-shirt above. As for the mountain logo (which apparently won’t be used much)…ick.
Edit: According to the Jazz’s official website, the official team colors are now “Navy, Dark Green, Dark Yellow, Gray.” So the gray outline is actually supposed to be there? EWWWW.
