Game 82 vs. PHX: An “F” for Effort

April 15, 2010

And I thought the Jazz came out sluggish and lethargic last night. Last night was the good ol’ days. It is hard to put into words how much I hate the Jazz right now, so I’ll let Andrei, KOC, and Deron sum up the game for me:

The Jazz were absolutely incompetent tonight. If not for Memo making it rain in the first quarter, this was potentially a 40- or 50-point piecing. The final score was absolutely no indication of how unclose the game was.

I know we were shorthanded. Guess what? I don’t care. Winners come to play, regardless. The Jazz–Memo aside–did not come to play and got dominated. They had, in theory, so much motivation to win the game tonight. 1) it was LHM Night; 2) my beloved Stock was in the house; 3) um, hello? Playoff seeding? The difference between home court advantage and roadkill?

Unfortunately, this team can’t/won’t/doesn’t know how to get up for big games. There was no urgency. There was no heart. There was no teamwork. There was no killer instict. No leadership. No taking care of business. No must-win mentality. All we saw was the Utah Jazz at its absolute worst: going through the motions, sloppy, being dominated, abandoning the offense–in other words, just a bunch of headless chickens running around aimlessly.

The wind completely went out of the season’s sails when AK got injured. Now, for the second year in a row, we are going into the Playoffs on a low note. Doesn’t that just fill you with confidence, since it worked out so well last year?

It was a sad effort for sure.

Memo has a hot hand = ignore him, put him on the bench, basically fuck up the teams chances to rise to his effort.

piss moan piss moan….. blah blah….

I thought we actually had a chance this year to do something different. But the last weeks worth of fails pretty much displayed that making the playoffs at any level is good enough.

    Make me sad. :(

It has been an entertaining season complete with highs so high and lows so low. Maybe that is what we need to learn as fans, to just be happy with what we get and enjoy the game.

Besides Stern will make sure to screw us out of another trip to the finals.

I am absolutely incapable of doing this…to my own detriment I suppose. My entire family knows to stay away when the Jazz lose because I’m sulking all day.

Totally on board with the remembering to just enjoy the game. I know I get too into it, and expect the Jazz to make smart choices 100% of the time. But come on, is that so much to ask?

Why, why, why is that too much to ask? I know we have lots of young guys, but the core of this team has been together for 5 years. I hate to keep harping on about this, but we need some veteran leadership on this team.

      /done whining (for now).
