Off-Day Odds and Ends

March 24, 2010

1. Raja Bell has been released by the Warriors. KOC, please sign him immediately. I know he likely won’t be able to play in the post-season, but I want him more for his leadership and toughness than anything else. Despite the logjam situation, we need his Matty-enforcing-“you hit my guy, I got his back” mentality. I honestly think his presence on the team makes us a possible contender. Even better, he already knows the system.

2. I admit it–I snickered when I read about CP3’s return yesterday. Why? Because before we played the Hornets two games ago, I was thinking to myself that even if Chris was ready to return that night, he’d probably postpone his return by one game. When did he make his return? The game after the Hornets played the Jazz. Connection? ;-)

3. Raptors’ Antoine Wright, do we need to put you on suicide watch?

“I don’t know Sloan personally, but from what I have heard he is a pretty tough guy. I think I could take him,” Wright cracked after Raptors practice Tuesday. “I will be looking forward to a fight after the game.” (The National Post)

Even at 70 years old, my money’s on Jerry LOL.

More from Wright: “His guys are very, very well coached,” Wright said. “And very well disciplined, and you would think that that would come from their leader.”

4. NBA TV (2:00 mark): You mentioned Jerry Sloan getting on you guys at halftime. What is your favorite Sloan-ism, the one thing you’re going to hear from him five times a game?

CJ: Uh…I can’t say it on TV. (laughs)

5. Hellooooo, Bye Week. See if you can pick out which team is mine, based on the team name or the fact that I just told you I’m enjoying a Bye Week.

P.S. Why is KFAN STILL bagging on Ronnie Brewer? The opening smash on Locked on Sports included a comparison of CJ and Ronnie B’s averages. What’s the point? The trade is way in the past, and you’re really just making yourself look bad. Ronnie is gone. Get off his back. Sheesh.

P.P.S. Denver playing the Knicks is like being caught between a rock and a hard place. You really don’t know who to root for.

Ooh. Congrats on the bye week!
You have the same waiver wire in that league & the SLC Dunk league, meaning you picked in the same spot, right?

Just curious how different your 2 teams are…

congrats on your unblemished, loss-free season!

actually i picked 12th in this league and 4th in our league.

my team in this this league is:
dwill, rondo, sjax, tyrus thomas, delfino, brook lopez, al-jeff, memo, battier, gallinari, batum, birdman.
      (9 starters, 3 bench)

i think i made too many changes along the way, though, because i was a lot stronger early on and my last four or five weeks were far from stellar

      just checked our league.

Unblemished, loss-free? I wish. That’d be something to brag about. ;)

        That’s an impressive team.
Picking 12th and finishing 1st? That’s impressive. My finish is less impressive because I picked 1st. At least I think it’s less impressive

My team, through the season, accomplished what I tried to get in the draft. Totally punted TOs & was up in the air with FG% & FT%. But I tried really hard to get blocks & assists, because it worked so well for me last year. (And lots of transactions… like 5 trades (57 moves overall)

i checked…you didn’t lose a single week. (two ties, yes, but no losses)

the funny thing is, i only have 4 of my original picks (5, if you count a trade) still on my team. i had to ditch guys like biedrins and diaw early, and didn’t keep andre miller or jamal crawford long enough.

i’m going to have try your [winning] strategy next year…

Really? No losses. Wow… I didn’t pay that much attention.

Yeah… the draft was bad for me.
I’ve kept my top 3 picks (LeBron, Crash, Brook Lopez). Picks 4 & 5 (Mr. Longoria, Biedrins), I traded. In a combined deal. For Paul Millsap. Oops? (That trade really didn’t work out for anyone.)

Picks 6-10 (Turkoglu, Hawes, Duhon, Noah, Lee) are all gone. I released them all at various times (Lee more than once). Pick 11 (Stephen Curry) bounced around the league a bit before I picked him up for good.

Pick 12 (Kendrick Perkins) I dropped. Pick 13 (Aaron Brooks) I still have. And pick 14 (Channing Frye) I let go of a bit back.

So I kept 5 of the 14 players I drafted, and only 4 of them have stayed on my team all season.

I actually only made 3 trades (the aforementioned one for ‘Sap, Brandon Jennings for LaMarcus Aldridge, and then LMA + George Hill for Horford & Flynn)… I’ve been living on the waiver wire.

Scary, I think, how it’s worked out. I dropped Courtney Lee like twice. Same with Stephen Curry. Dropped Brendan Haywood multiple times. Boris Diaw. Corey Brewer. Toney Douglas. Darren Collison. Beno Udrih. Carlos Delfino. Marcus Thornton. George Hill. Jrue Holiday. (Man… I went through a ton of guards…)

I’ve not seen enough of Raja Bell since he was traded/(SOLD OUT) of our team to make an informed opinion. But I sure as hell liked him back then I do not think that would change much.

I’d really like to see Antoine Wright take a poke at Sloane, one thing I’m sure of, he would be taught a lesson of a magnitude so great that he might not even be able to play this game any longer! He would be laughed outta the league for lettin an old man beat the shit outta him!!!

Den vs Nicks? You really gotta think about that one? Well the happless Knicks kicked the stuffin outta the enver boyz! And I was makin sum noise while it happened too!

I have no idea why anybody would ever listen to Kfan! They are so far away from the likes of Bolerjack and professionalism it must really be difficult to have to bear through a single example.

I admit to having fantasies, some involving balls too, but I don’t play such in leagues. So I’ll just enjoy the fun ya’ll seem to have with yours!! :)

i DID think about it, and came to the conclusion that i wanted the knicks to beat denver (which they did)…regardless of where the knicks end up [among lottery teams], there’s no certainty which pick we’ll get. getting ahead of denver in the western conf. standings would, however, go a long way.

p.s. i listen to kfan for the player/front office/coaches interviews. unfortunately, you never know when they’re coming on exactly, so you end up hearing more than you meant to.

I got 10 bucks on Jerry.

And yes, sign Raja now. As an Assistant Assistant Coach, something to keep him with us. Even as a spare warm body for practice and his ‘tude. But Deron’s got a touch of that now, remember? (who did he wipe out with that pick? was it a Bobcat?)

by bucks, do you mean tasmanian dollars? ;-)

yes, deron thankfully has a bit of that, but if you ask me, we can always use more.
