Game 70 vs. NO: Damn, only 12 games to go….
If Deron’s performing the chicken dance on the bench in the fourth quarter, you know the Jazz did pretty well.
Looking at the blowout nature of the score (106-86) and Fes’ +/- of +28, you’d naturally assume that Chris Paul had returned from injury and played in the game (/snicker snicker). With about two minutes remaining in the first quarter, West got thrown out for pushing Korver, who was in the air, in the back with a forearm while striking KK in the head with his other arm. [No word yet on whether the ladies of Utah allowed West to leave the state unscathed.]
It was a blowout by the 6-minute mark in the 2nd quarter, and the Jazz coasted from there. They got the lead up to 35 at one point, and Fes’ +/- was freaking +43. We got outscored 29-15 in the 4th, but still won by a 20-point margin. Where was that last night?
–I totally laughed when I saw the scorer’s table ad for fake Jordans during the fourth quarter. I couldn’t get a good screencap, so I’m also posting an (almost equally bad) photo I apparently took from a moving vehicle in China a few years ago:
–Early on, it appeared that Fes was in for a career night. I’m pretty sure the 43 minutes were a career high, but unfortunately he went 0-4 and only scored one point in the second half. He ended up with 11 points, one off his career high of 12. He also had 42% of the Jazz’s total TOs. On the bright side, he had eight boards, three blocks, and stayed out of foul trouble.
–Mansap racked up 22 & 15 in 37 minutes. He also had three assists, three steals, and best of all only one foul.
–OJ stole the ball and dunked it in the second quarter. Sweet.
–CJ’s first three buckets were all at the rim. He was 8-11 for the night. See the connection? I do.
Stupid Boozer homerism courtesy of KFAN’s pre-game show: The key matchup in this game, according to Nissalke, would be “whoever plays David West.” To quote myself in the last game recap, “It was as if KFAN knew Boozer was going to get smoked and decided to preemptively absolve him of blame.” So after saying that the Jazz would have to keep David West in check, which would seem to imply that he’s a good player, Nissalke and Bagley start going on about how they don’t see anything special in his game, that he’s not good enough a player to carry a team, and that Boozer>>>>West. Furthermore, New Orlean’s roster is pathetic and horrible, and it’s on Millsap to have a big night. W T F????
In contrast, Jerry called out Boozer for his poor defense in the pre-game. He used the word “atrocious” to describe the Jazz’s team D in the last game, and said that he wanted to see the older guys play better D tonight. Hmmm…who could he have been referring to, especially since AK and Memo were both out? Apart from Boozer, the only other Jazz player who would be considered “older” is KK, and he’s been not-spectacular-but-steady on D this year.
With Denver and Dallas both going down tonight, what can I
say sing but “Oh, happy day…”
