Game 14 of 82: Utah Jazz at Dallas Mavericks (1-13)

November 23, 2013

fan-yawnJimmer and Angelina were not impressed.

enes-blooperSomeone’s gonna end up on Shaqtin’ A Fool again.

Quotage
** Tyrone Corbin, post-game
The way we fought back in the second half is encouraging.
** Corbin on Marvin Williams
Can’t say enough about how much we appreciate him, you know, having his nose reset yesterday [and] actually playing a few games before having it reset when he broke it, to continue to play for us and give us a chance to have a chance to win games and be getting better™. And it just shows for the young guys, you know, what kind of dedication you have to have if you want to be good in this league.
** Corbin on Gordon Hayward
He was waiting for it to come to him. We need him to be aggressive for us. You know, he didn’t want to press. He thought he took a few bad [shots] the last game, so he was just kind waiting for the game to come to him.
** Trey Burke, post-game
I think we just have to change our mindset in the first half, and just come out the way we–like we’re losing already.

** Memo Okur is such a good dude. Love this tweet that he sent to Hayward…and this tweet is also an example of unintentional comedy at its finest due to the tweet that he unintentionally replied to.

** John Lucas III (@luke1luk) has taken over for Mo Williams in taking pictures of sleeping teammates. His latest victim is Rudy Gobert, who he describes thusly: “one ugly dude when he sleep LMAO.” The best part? Rudy is hugging his Minnie Mouse doll.

** Speaking of Lucas, it was his birthday on Thursday. He posted on Instagram a present that he got from one of the guys:

JLIII didn’t say who the wonderful gift-giver was, but let’s rewind to a tweet we saw a month ago (notice the page was still in the magazine at the time):

** Steve Brown: The Jazz expected some movement from Favors there.
** Brown: Trey Burke will pull it out. (H/T @dianaallen)
** Ron Boone: How about Dirk just riding Burks away from the play?
** Brown: Gordon did get in there, but it didn’t come early.
** Brown on Kanter: I’m not sure what he could’ve done, though. He got it up, and did the best he could.
** Trey Burke, post-game: We allowed them to, you know, do things too easy tonight. You know, their hands were on us, and our hands weren’t on them.

To close: Hope the boys had a fun time (H/T @UtahJazzPodcast).

Always good to see they still can find it in their hearts to enjoy life when they’re the worst in their business. Maybe if they were winning they’d get some finer ladies in their parties, though.

Now a serious comment: why is it that we are getting severely outrebounded every game? I am very disappointed with Kanter and Favors seeing those boxscores.

Al and Paul’s rebounding was poor too so maybe its a philosophy/system thing.

        @GS, outrebounded by 10, Favors grabbed 7, Kanter 5
vs GS, outrebounded by 17, Favors had 7, Kanter 6
@ NO, outrebounded by 7, Favors had 11, Kanter 9
        @DAL, outrebounded by 10, Favors had 8, Kanter 5

I never thought I’d see this from these guys. I can’t watch the games, but not even in my wildest dreams can I imagine how this could be Ty’s fault – and I’ve been all in for a coach change for a while now.

Rebounding was the one area I thought where this year’s Jazz would excel.

Can you say it’s Ty fault if one possible reason is because our defense is so awful and Favors is trying to do so much running between guys on D that he’s out of position to rebound? As for Kanter, he just looks lost and confused and all the time…

P.S. Why can’t you watch games anymore? That’s awful!

Exactly, I was totally sure the rebounding would be great, so much so to get us some wins. I’d have to watch it to see, but even if Favors is moving to challenge shots, once they go up, it’s a matter of effort of boxing out your guy. Favors could grab fewer, but not the rest of the team, I would think.

I’m in the UK for my PhD, which means the time shift went from “bad” to “impossible”. :/ I thought about watching on demand afterwards, but ILP is so expensive it’s just not worth it if it’s not live… So I’m counting on your coverage more than ever! :)

This team does NOT box out…to the point where when a player actually does, it’s like, “Whoa, did you see that? He boxed out!”

European time zones definitely are the worst for watching NBA games live. Probably a good decision not to pay for ILP given how bad the service is and how bad it is as a service…And you can, you know, focus on your studies :)

I’m the guy in that first GIF! Haha. In my defense, it was a long drive into the game and the first half was terrible! No matter how unimpressed I may be at times, I love the Jazz! Thanks for putting my wife and I on the page! It was a great laugh!

The Mavs are a good team, and the Jazz did the best they could against them.

John Lucas is as bad at assessing Rudy Gobert’s level of attractiveness as he is at playing basketball.
