Game 66 Jazz vs. Grizzlies: Stop the Bleeding

March 17, 2013

hayward-shotThis Gordon Hayward shot was fantastic (as was his next shot), and equally great was Big Al’s reaction.

The Jazz’s effort and aggressiveness on both ends of the floor, particularly by the starters, was above and beyond anything we’ve seen all season. We shall savor this win, and not look a gift horse in its mouth and ask where that’s been all season.

P.S. So, so good to see Hot Rod Hundley in the house!

Post-Game Quotage
** Tyrone Corbin, post-game mix tape: We are where we are. We need to win our share of games out to have a chance to make the Playoffs…We have to continue, and you know, it shows us how we can play if we put our minds to it and how we gonna have to play the rest of the way to have a chance to make the Playoffs…This group of guys, man, have a lot of character. Where we don’t have success, it’s not because we’re not trying. You know, they’ll do whatever they can to try and have us have a chance to win the game, and you know, I think tonight was a great indicator of just how, you know, when our back’s up against the wall, how they will lay everything they have out there on the floor to get a chance to win the game.
** Corbin, asked whether the difference tonight was Hayward starting: It’s everybody…You gotta look at the entire picture. Everything helps. [Will you stick with this starting lineup?] We’ll look at it going forward. We’ll see.
** Al Jefferson on the Jefferson/Favors/Millsap frontcourt and #UDQM: Anytime we get the chance to play with that big lineup, I love it. You know, I think, you know, Paul do a great job at the three, and D-Fav also do a great job, you know, protecting the rim. You know, so anytime I see that big lineup come, you know, I like it.

** Derrick Favors on #shoefoul: I didn’t know til someone told me on the bench that he tried to hit me with a shoe or something. I didn’t feel it.
** Paul Millsap on #shoefoul: That shouldn’t be, shouldn’t have happened, ever. Nowhere, ever, you know, should a person get fouled by a shoe.

favors-wheelsJust a gorgeous move by Favors

Random Stuff, etc.
** People still calling Gordon Hayward “Haywood”: Dennis Scott. (H/T @JazzmanJoey)
** “Corbin on one reason why he needed to change shoes a couple of times a month: ‘My feet sweat a lot.'” (DN)
** Via @JosephHorner: “If anyone’s interested, other than current playoff standings this was on white board in the Jazz locker room”

** Let’s guess what’s on the end of Hayward’s necklace…

Unintentional Dirty Quote Machines of the Night (UDQM)
** Boler on Tony Allen flop: Allen felt the bump and decided to go on down.
** Boler on Randolph: He likes the middle of that lane.
** Boler: Favors, a big tip. (H/T @5kl)
** Booner on Favors: How quickly he went back up!
** Boler: A deuce for Gasol. (H/T @rxmike12)
** Boler after Gasol bucket: Nice touch, big fella! (H/T @blazerdog38)
** Booner: I thought that was Favors’ hand sticking between the… (Booner didn’t finish the sentence)
** Boler: Obviously, you felt like you had the stroke going. Hayward: Yeah, I shot that numerous times with Jeremy, and Jeff, and Alec, and all those guys.
** Thurl: You have to give the coaches credit for the insertion of Gordon Hayward. (H/T @5kl)
** Alema: The insertion of Gordon Hayward, maybe takes a minute or two to get adjusted to that.
** Favors on Marc Gasol and #shoefoul: I didn’t feel none of that.
** Favors on the fans: They get into it, so they help us get into it.
** Foye: Really not worried about what anyone in front of us is doing or what anyone behind us is doing, because we know if we handle what we have to handle, which we know we can do it, then everything will be ok for us.
