Bits from Dennis Lindsey Interview, 1/4
On whether Mo Williams’ injury necessitates a roster move
While no one wants to have a battlefield promotion, you know, now Jamaal [Tinsley] has to step up. Earl [Watson] has to step up. Gordon [Hayward] and Alec [Burks] are going to have more ball-handling responsibilities, so you know, it’s our job to not alibi, not make excuses, but do the best that we can. We’ll determine our level, you know, real clearly here based upon wins and losses over the next six weeks.
We always keep a ready list in good times and bad, you know, in case something happens…That’s David Fredman’s responsibility. We’ll take stock in, in Freddy and his list that, that he’s given us over the past few months, but the one thing I wanna caution everybody: We, we don’t want to rob Peter to pay Paul and, and make a very short-term decision. We want to have a real long-term, strategic approach to this…I’m gonna err on a long-term vision here.
What about moves that weaken you in the short-term but would improve weaknesses in the long-term?
Kevin [O'Connor], Bob Hyde, Randy Rigby, you know, the Miller family, have been really disciplined to build this 2013 threshold so we can react in keeping our players, so we can react into looking at other alternatives.
And the thing I’d say is, is I’m going to be, you know, really, I’m going to try to be, at least, very disciplined and strategic in, in how we use the, the flexibility that has been so built up in such a discliplined way.
On the Jazz’s bigs
Enes [Kanter]‘s conditioning; Al [Jefferson]‘s mentorship of Enes, his improvement in the low post, has been great. You know, Derrick [Favor]‘s ability to mature has been good. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Derrick.
And Derrick has a quiet personality, but I think deep down he really cares about the results. You know, it hurts, hurts him when he doesn’t perform like he wants to perform.
I think you’ve seen improvement in free throw shooting. Brad Jones has been really instrumental in helping him with some technique, and so Derrick has, like Paul [Millsap], Derrick has a real quiet pride about him.
So I, you know, I’m just ecstatic, you know, to, you know, join the organization and (x5) inherit such, you know, a talented big man group. I really, I feel really lucky. (1280)
