Game 31 Jazz vs. Clippers: .484, 11th in the west, last in our division
Mooby boing boing boing
So how about that amazing, wonderful, exciting, fun-to-watch second quarter? The group on the floor (Enes Kanter, Derrick Favors, Gordon Hayward, Alec Burks, and Earl Watson) looked phenomenal. I mean, they were so good that even the most jaded fan had to step away from the Cliffs of Antipathy to start cheering for the team again. It was a glimpse into a future that we all want to live in but is just outside of our grasp.
And then…well, y’all know how it ended. The Jazz lost–sorry if you don’t want to hear it, but we weren’t robbed on the final play; the refs got it right–with no one on our side looking good.
The refs even had to be escorted off the floor by arena security.
Practice and Shootaround Quotage
** Tyrone Corbin on whether and how he’s planning to attack the zone differently than he did against the Warriors: Well, we have to get, you have to be able to get some early opportunities. You gotta make shots, first of all, and we had some good looks. We missed the shots.
** Corbin on what’s behind the Jazz’s offensive struggles: We missing shots. I mean, we missing shots.
** Corbin on the Jazz’s falling offensive efficiency: Missing shots. We’re, we’re not, we’re, we’re, we’re not making the shots that we’re, we’re getting, I think we’re getting good looks. We’re just not making them…We’ll continue to take the right shots.
** Corbin: [So everything's happening the way you want and you're just missing shots?] For the most part. We’re not 100 percent there yet…We’re taking shots within the system. We’re just not making them.
** Al Jefferson on what’s behind the Jazz’s offensive struggles: You asking me the question that I’m trying to think of the answer to every night when I go to bed, man. I don’t, I mean, I don’t know why things going the way it’s going right now. But you know, it’s a long season and you know, it’s gon get better.
** Randy Foye, on what the Jazz have to do well to beat the Clippers: Everything.
** Foye on the Jazz’s offensive struggles: You know, that’s part of the season, man. Nothing’s ever easy. If it’s, if it’s easy, you know, you probably don’t want it, you know? If it’s, if it’s tough, that’s what it’s all about…We gonna feel much better when we get over this hump.
** Marvin on Earl Watson: He doesn’t take losing lightly…He doesn’t like it. You know, it’s kind of funny, but you know, we scrimmaged yesterday and they lost. And you know, he wanted to check it up, he didn’t want practice to end. He was trying to check it up again, and coach had to call it off.
** Tyrone Corbin: I thought we played with the same energy they had. We went to the basket, we, you know, they get fouls on the perimeter. We can’t even get any fouls going to the basket. It’s the way it is…We made some mistakes, but we fought our way through it, and had a chance to win the ball game at the end, and unfortunate, they got a lot of free throws.
** More Corbin: We didn’t get many calls inside, but you know what, I thought the guys did the right thing.
** Corbin on Burks et al.: It’s just the way we rotate. [Alec Burks] continue to work hard, and was waiting for his opportunity. I like DeMarre [Carroll] also. It’s just the way we, you know, we can’t play everybody…Jeremy [Evans] come in and work hard everyday. Can’t find time to get him on the floor because of the log we have at the bigs. So he’ll continue to work and be ready.
** Alec Burks on getting playing time: I feel like I’m getting opportunity, you know, just like [DeMarre Caroll] did when he got his opportunity. He just played hard. And I’m just trying to do the same thing he did.
** Randy Foye on the last possession: I made a move, and [Matt Barnes] kind of jumped back. So when he jumped back, you know, I showed him the ball. He jumped out, and I jumped into him. And when I jumped into him, I knew I was going to get three free throws, but it didn’t go my way. [So you were confident you created enough contact to get the call?] Definitely, because the way they were calling it, so I felt as though if I got hit, you know, it was, it was, especially going up into my shot, that it would be a foul. But it wasn’t.
Random Stuff, etc.
** Found out from the Clippers’ game thread that Jerry Sloan and Mark Eaton were at the game. Via @travisgaylord:
** People still calling Alec Burks “Alex”: Boler.
** Also from the Clippers’ game thread, Matt Barnes apparently popped his jersey and yelled, “Our MF’ing house” at the final buzzer.
