Lol. Who knew Ross would tweet such stuff? I must say that even though I really like AK and wished him back, I understand Ross’ point regarding AK having promissed LHM, when he commanded the max deal, a level of commitment to greatness he ultimately didn’t show.
If you’ve read Siler’s stuff starting from when he was the Trib’s beat writer, you quickly come to realize that his issues with AK are of a personal nature, rather than some highbrow outrage over AK failing to live up to his contract.
If I have time one of these days, maybe I’ll put all of his tweets together in a post.
P.S. I understand some fans’ frustrations about the max contract given AK’s significant injury history, but it can never be brought up without mentioning that he earned the max playing PF, and Kevin O’Connor signed Boozer, who held on to the starting PF spot for the next six years, the same summer. His role changed, so his production wasn’t going to be the same.
Actually, I laughed and asked the first question in my post because I did read Ross in the Tribune. ;) It is totally personal.
Yes, I do think the Jazz mishandled AK. But because I live in Brazil and the games broadcast internationally are the National TV games over there, you can guess that I could only read about the Jazz and then watch highlights. So, I didn’t see the whole thing play out on the court with Boozer and all.
Thanks. :) I remember that game and that stretch! Now that I gave some thought about it, from the few games I watched entirely with AK at the 3 or at the 4 in the early Boozer years, I remember the fact that AK lacked the defensive rebounding Boozer brought to the table. Given that Memo lacked it too, that could have been one of the reasons Sloan opted for Boozer at starting PF.
