Off-Day Odds and Ends

April 26, 2012

This escaped my notice yesterday. It took place immediately after The Hug Part 2:

Quotage
** Al Jefferson: [I’m an] OK shot blocker compared to Derrick Favors. (1)

** Big Al: It was a long road [getting back to the Playoffs]. I really wish my grandmother was here to see it because she watched every one of my games ever since I been in the league, and seen all the struggle I went through, losing and all of that. Finally made it back to the Playoffs, I know she still seeing it, but I wish she could’ve just been here to experience it with me. It would’ve been a wonderful feeling. (1)

Ack! The dust in this room is killing my eyes!!

** Tyrone Corbin on Big Al: He’s been tremendous, his approach to the game…He compete in practice and he teach and talk to especially Enes [Kanter] and Derrick about low-post play and how to move and they work well together and learning from one of the best guys in the low post of how to move to go to it during the course of a game…

You see Enes’ move down low with the up-and-under stuff that he’s getting, that’s a lot of what Al does with him during practice…the Orlando game, Enes made up-and-under move, and you see him point to the bench. That was pointing to Al, the move he told him to try and work on, and he did it in a game. It’s great to see. (1)

Enes and Big Al playing a little one-on-one during shootaround in Houston:

** Paul Millsap: [How happy were you the way your team handled the drama of a star player that didn’t want to be there and was taking the team hostage?] Losing him just gave this team another focus. It helped a lot of the guys develop. We miss a great player in Deron, but the future is bright. We got a lot of young talent, a lot of young playmakers, and things are working out for us. (ESPN)

** Earl Watson: Enes Kanter and Derrick Favors together might be the most powerful, dominant [future] frontline in the NBA. (2)

Also, people still calling Enes “Eenis”: Earl Watson.

** Corbin on the Jefferson-Millsap-Favors “Big 3″ lineup: It’s actually working out a little better against different groups of guys than we anticipated. (1)

** Randy Rigby on Greg Miller: What I love about Greg is he’s very techno-savvy. (2)

Wow, you totally can’t tell Greg Miller is into techno and an aficionado at that. Can’t judge a book by its cover, right?

** Devin Harris, asked to play word association:
Paul Millsap: Quiet.
Al Jefferson: Never stops talking.
Jerry Sloan: Don’t know much about him.
Ty Corbin: … (12 seconds later* lol) … Knows games. Does a great job of establishing relationships as well as getting the best out of his players. (The Zone)

*I counted.

Finally, DO NOT miss this. @shandonfan, creator of the epic Al and Paul “Everything I Do” bromance video, is back with Part 2: “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”
