Off-Day Odds and Ends

April 4, 2012

One. Earl Watson’s reaction to being demoted to third-string point guard…concerning?

“It’s a business decision on both ends,” Watson said. “I’ll do my best to stay ready, stay professional. But also consult with my agent and see what’s next.”

He added: “I don’t know if you can win your spot back. It’s not like it’s practice time or it’s game time or minutes played. I think it’s a coach’s decision, and more power to him.” …

“I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have a problem playing on any other team, so it’s not like I’m out of the NBA,” Watson said. “Just stay ready and just let my agent figure all the business side out.” …

It’s just the way it is. But it’s just unfortunate it happened after the trade deadline. So timing of the season is bad. But there’s always options. (Trib)

Of course, after Earl said all this, Tyrone Corbin (who’d previously said that Jamaal Tinsley had deserved the promotion to point guard #2), did a 180 and put Tinsley back on the end of the bench while having Earl be the first point guard off the bench. You have to wonder what Tinsley thought of all this.

Two. Batum-on-Favors Unintentional Dirty Image of the Night (H/T modernagejazz):

Three. Alec Burks, on how more playing time has helped his progression: I feel like I could do that all year, I just didn’t have that opportunity. Now I’m getting that opportunity, I’m just showing everybody what I can do. (1)

Four. What’s going on with the Trib’s profile pic for Josh Howard?

** The headband is obviously real, because no one would Photoshop a headband onto his head (especially as a member of the Jazz). But the headband looks Photoshopped.
** So if he was wearing the headband while posing for this portrait, he was obviously not wearing a Jazz uniform at the time. Is that why the color of his face and body don’t match?
** It looks like that’s his neck, but is that even his body?

Five. Tyrone Corbin: I have an iPad and an iPhone. (2)

What’s on his iPad and iPhone: Diana Ross, the Whispers, Slow Motion, Whitney.

** Corbin, on what he attributes the Jazz’s recent slow starts to: We haven’t been able to put our finger on it.
** [Is it the schedule?] Two weeks back, we had four games in five nights and then we backed it up with three games in four nights, so the guys are tired and you have a four-overtime game in Atlanta to start off [a three-game road trip], so it was a difficult stretch for us.

Six. Here’s a look at Paul Millsap’s healing facial laceration. But the real point of this image is, Find The Trib’s BTS!
