Off-Day Odds and Ends
One. The Jazz have announced the signing of DeMarre Carroll, who was released by the Nuggets four days ago. Randy Rigby broke the news on KFAN: “We’re going to be adding a 14th player to the Jazz roster that we think is going to be a little bit of an insurance policy for us in case we have one of our forwards go down.” (2)
(No, he’s not a 3-point shooter.)
In related news, Rigby is still calling Enes Kanter “Ee-nis.”
Two. Al Jefferson’s earrings…
Keep in mind the size of Big Al’s head (I know, I know. #udqm), and you realize those things are even bigger than you originally thought.
Three. David James, unintentional dirty quote machine (on the Jazz’s rotation):
You can just one night go with one guy, the next night go with another. Or two, however you decide, rather than have multiple situations where you’re taking multiple guys in and out. Or you decide early on, I’m gonna go with Kanter down the stretch, so maybe I need to give him a blow at the 7-minute mark. (2)
Five. Bits from Earl Watson:
On Favors and Kanter:
I don’t think people seeing their development the way I see it, in the layers, ’cause they’re not putting up a lot of points when they play. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it from two young guys, and that’s Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter. The way they dominated the paint against Pau Gasol and Bynum was so impressive…they were so physical and they were so athletic that any loose ball that came off that rim or was in the paint, I knew we was gonna get it…most incredible thing I’ve ever seen, from two young guys who are 19 and 20 years old. So the future for them is unbelievable.
How Jazz fans are like Nick Collison:
When you an opposing player, you hate playing in Utah. The fans are right on you; the fans are loud. They find a way to get under your skin. When you on the other side, you love ‘em. It’s like Nick Collison. It’s a guy you hate to play against, but if he’s your teammate, you love him. But during the game, you just want to run him over every chance you get. (1)
