Jerry Sloan and Phil Johnson inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame…

…and video of the ceremony better show up online if those that this concerns knows what’s good for them.

Not gonna find anything here that you won’t find elsewhere, so here are just some bits that I found interesting.

** This was the first time Jerry has been back to EnergySolutions Arena since he resigned. He said that he hadn’t been back because “I don’t want to be in anyone’s way.” (Trib) Which makes me wonder what elements (who?) make him feel like he would be in the way. He’s said in the past that when he got fired by the Bulls, he was at the arena the next night to watch the game.

** John was there. Didn’t hear any mention of Karl being there, which I take to mean that the Jazz got an injunction to bar him from entering the state of Utah out of fear he would talk to the media and, like, tell the truth.

** Jerry talking about John and thinking about Mark Jackson^: “How simple [John] made little things and how he was able to get other people to play at another level without saying a lot. A lot of guys talk about leadership but they don’t lead very well.^ [John] never talked about it a great deal.”

** Jerry on the lockout: “The sad part about it and what concerns me the most is, what do we do with the fans? Fans have stuck with us in this organization for all these years, I think they deserve better that that.”

** Jerry: “Sold 68 tractors. Bobbye and I planned to do antiques when I retired. Tammy doesn’t like antiques.” — Insert joke about Tammy and antiques.

** Jerry: “I miss coaching. I didn’t know if I would or not…to know you don’t have to get out of bed, that’s kinda interesting but I’ve kinda gotten over that.” (Trib)

** This hilarity:

As the Utah Sports Hall of Fame’s Class of 2011 posed for photos Wednesday night, Phil Johnson voiced a concern about the arrangement.

Johnson was at one end, Natalie Williams and Annette Ausseresses were in the middle, and ex-NFL referee Doug Toole stood next to the group’s other bookend, Jerry Sloan.

“I hate to see him stand that close to an official,” Johnson joked about his longtime coaching companion’s placement.

While everyone chuckled, a smiling Sloan let the group know, “He’ll be all right.” (DN)

** This hilarity: BTS live-tweeting while Jerry was speaking with the media and his auto-correct changing “Sloan” to “Slowness”:

** Dug into the historical archives for old times’ sake. The Jazz were 1-0 last season when Jerry wore that tie.

Damn straight about the video showing up online!
For what it’s worth, I heard on Tuesday that Stockton’s wife called to confirm he was coming, but that the event organizers had not heard back from Malone at that point. This came from a relative of Dick Rosetta’s. We theorized that Malone was going to surprise Sloan and Johnson but who knows.

Thoughts?
