The Warriors take one for the fans, get Mark Jackson off the air

There are few NBA-related people I dislike more than Mark Jackson. It has little to do with his drivel commentating, and much to do with the crap he pulled when he was a Jazzman.

It was announced today that Mark Jackson has been hired as the new head coach of the Warriors.

“…he wasn’t Plan A, and likely wasn’t even Plan B or Plan C.”

But we got a sense where their priorities were when they initially reached out to former Jazz coach Jerry Sloan and former Knicks and Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy. Both of those coaches had experience, a track record of success, a strong personality and a defense-first mentality.

Both Sloan and Van Gundy declined interviews with the Warriors, and so Mike Brown became their No. 1 focus…

He was also said to be the Warriors’ front-runner before he ended up taking the Los Angeles Lakers head coaching job. (CSN Bay Area)

Let’s go get some reaction from Warriors fans, starting from when it was just a rumor:

i watched on pre game last night
and all i could think about was impending doom.

Where is Jerry West’s brutally honest voice telling the FO how much BS this is?

[facepalm pic]

I’ll believe it when I see it.
In all honesty I might just give up on the Warriors if he is hired

I dislike Mark Jackson as an announcer and i will hate him as a head coach.

damn how did a guy with no experience get 6 mil!?
by jadedeed2327 on Jun 7, 2011 9:14 AM CST

we needed an defensive XOs head coach and we get this guy?
by chaikris7 on Jun 7, 2011 9:19 AM CST

Doesn’t this go against what they said they wanted????
I’m so confused. They said they wanted an experienced coach with a defensive mindset. Also, they wanted someone with a strong philosophy that the players could adapt to over time. Mark Jackson may be saying good things in the interview but has no track record of any of this.
I wanted Budz or Casey–my hope is that both turned it down. If it is about money (Mark Jax pretty cheap) this contradicts Lacob’s promise that money won’t be a factor. grrrrrrrrrrrrr

“You want to have a guy who’s strong enough to be in charge,” general manager Larry Riley said Monday night. “Mark has a strong personality–not abrasive, but he has a strong personality and should have the right mix to be able to lead our team.”
Is there anyone on the Warriors dumb enough to mistake Jackson’s stilted, slack-jawed posturing as “strong enough to be in charge”? Danny Fortson himself wouldn’t be dumb and/or crazy enough to buy into this nonsense. If Mark Jackson is an NBA coach then Napoleon Dynamite should replace Stern as commissioner.

ugh
I cant think of anyone I’d be less happy with

VERY INDICATIVE
when as soon as the person is named head coach, then GSOM nation immediately start wondering who the assistant coaches will be. Man….
by yobo on Jun 7, 2011 9:59 AM CST

Should have hired Charlie Bell to be head coach.

F**************************************************************************************k.
I think I’m going to start rooting for the Warriors to lose now, because:
a) We clearly aren’t winning a championship next year
b) We need a top 7 pick next year
c) It will get us closer to firing Mark Jackson
d) I’m not sure it’s ethically defensible to support an organization that decides Mark Jackson is the best choice available.

OMFG NO NO NO NO
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coming this Fall: Marc Jackson’s gonna find out it’s not so easy being a borderline autistic, monotone train-wreck trying to coach a professional basketball team in:
Derp-A-Derp-A-Tweedily-Derp-A-Momma-There-Goes-That-Man-A-Dumb!

Having skimmed through several different posts on this topic on Golden State of Mind, I feel qualified to sum up the general sentiment of Warriors fans:

That they are OK with the hiring IF the Warriors go out and hire a whole crew of smart, experienced, talented assistants.

…in which case, what do they need Mark Jackson for? Clearly, GSW is just taking one for the team (NBA fans) and getting Mark Jackson off the air.

Comments from other teams’ fans is my favorite part of this blog.

And I could totally get behind Napoleon as Commish.

Thoughts?
