Random Tuesday/Wednesday Odds and Ends

May 18, 2011

One. Today, the day of the NBA Draft Lottery, took forever to get here. It’s going to be another long wait until we get to the next major event, the actual draft, which is over a month away.

For the occasion, Kevin O’Connor didn’t want to leave anything to chance and broke out the good luck charms.

Of course, some might say that the Jazz would’ve been better served in the luck department by sending Karl and John to the lottery to sit there in one chair (“some” = “me”), but it was not in my hands.

Two. Whatever KOC did, it worked. The first of the Jazz’s two picks came out where it was expected to come out:

The Jazz’s second pick was skipped over at #6 (or rather, #7 because the Cavs’ first pick had moved up between the Jazz’s two picks), meaning we had moved into the top three. At this point, KOC *almost* cracked a smile.

(Aside: Say what you want about John Stockton, but he smiled at least twice during his 19 years with the Jazz. After The Shot, and after The Pass. This might have been KOC’s first half smile.)

In the end, this is how it shook out for the Jazz:

#3 and #12!

Three. Jazz artist extraordinaire Jashin Mizuho recently posted some videos from his (her?) recent trip to Utah.

Here’s one of the Jazz’s pre-game huddle on March 26th:

Fes hilariously jumping over Al at 1:08 aside (not that the jump itself was hilarious; it’s more that somehow everything Fes does is hilarious), it is, as Jashin said in the video description, “so quiet. No chants. No hopping. No dancing.”

Now, compare it to this video of the Jazz huddle from 2008 (keep your eye on Memo in the beginning. Also, Matt Harpring is popping his booty.):

Watching (and comparing) these, I can’t help thinking…no wonder we lost so many games this year. *cloud of sadness and doom descends overhead*

Four. If you’ve been in the market for a Gordon Hayward T-shirt for ages and have never been able to find one, it’s your lucky day. You can now get them from PEAK’s online store for just $30, and it is surprisingly in stock at the moment:

(In all seriousness, that’s a pretty cute caricature and it looks a lot like Hayward…at the beginning of last season.)

Five. After Jerry retired, he said that he didn’t want his name coming up every time there was a coaching vacancy. It already has with the Warriors’ vacancy, and it’s starting to with other teams as well.

“I just can’t see him staying on the farm,” the Spurs coach said. “Jerry’s too freakin’ competitive.”

“L.A. is very ‘un-Jerry,’ but he’d have the respect, that’s for sure,” Popovich said. “People would listen.” (Spurs Nation)

The NBA’s Hang Time further expounds on that idea. Just for the record, 1) If this happens, you can just kill me though I must believe Jerry would never accept that gig; 2) I don’t believe the Lakers really have a coaching vacancy. I think this is just Phil Jackass whoring for attention as usual.

Everything Fes does, every facial expression he makes, and everything he says is funny!! I love that kid! I am a “Gleek” because Fes said that he loves the show, so I just had to watch. (I have only watched the first season on Netflix; there are too many games to be watched during the week) I love him and treasure his wrist band as one of my most prized possessions.

On a much lighter note; the newest video was so sad and depressing, I nearly cried. What in the hell happened to us?

I’ve been really disappointed by Glee Season 2. Then again, we have possibly a loooooong off-season ahead of us so at least you’ll have something to do!

Re the videos–I don’t know what happened to us or why, but I can see how we lost so many games…

Watched the huddle video from this season for the first time yesterday. Had never watched one before. When finished, my thought was, “No wonder they played how they did this season.” Watching the huddle video from 2008 only reinforces that opinion. What the hell happened, indeed?

Suppose it’s water under the bridge now, but now I’m wondering what the huddles were like this season when Deron was still here.

Thoughts?
