Thoughts on the Deron trade

I was JUST starting to get back to full night’s sleep(s?) and catching up on all the TV shows I missed in the past two weeks. And then the Jazz management go and throw out a *Boom Bitches.* Stuff that went through my mind today:

** Maybe now we can get Jerry and Phil back?

** I don’t feel much sadness or have any misgivings. Is that weird? I loved Deron for a long time; there were some fantastic times/years. I know it’s going to hurt when I see him at his first Nets press conference or see him in a Nets uniform for the first time, but I think it’s for the best.

** Why is it for the best? Deron said last weekend that he’s never been this frustrated or unhappy as an NBA player (tribjazz). I don’t think that was going to change, and it was affecting how he was playing on the court, and that was infecting the entire team.

** It’s interesting that the shoe is now on the other foot for Team Deron Jazz fans that were giving Team Sloan Jazz fans a lot of crap and saying that they should support the team no matter what if they are true fans.

** I wonder how this is going to turn out for Deron. This season has led me to believe that he values getting his own way more than winning. No question he values both, though. According to all the older guys, Jerry has been getting softer and softer with each passing year. Avery Johnson, on the other hand, is famous for his authoritarianism and micro-management. Meaning Deron might not get wins OR his own way in New Jersey.

** I’m stunned by this:

I would’ve thougt it’d be the opposite. Are there that many more fans out there that feel the same way I do about Deron vs. Jerry?

** The Jazz brass (as far as I can tell without having watched the press conference or read any of the news stories yet) made the trade because they weren’t sure Deron would extend and didn’t want to lose him for nothing. They also say the drama with Jerry had nothing to do with it. Not sure how much I buy the latter. There’s also some confusion as to which side initiated the trade. The Nets say the Jazz did; the Jazz say the Nets did.

** I’m as surprised as anyone that the Jazz made a deal with the Nets and AK wasn’t involved (thank God).

** Ten more hours until the trade deadline passes. Ten more hours and I can remove the “Save AK” from the banner up top.

** Somehow, 90% of the lingering sadness I have been carrying around since Jerry’s resignation is gone. This trade has somehow/weirdly given me closure.

Once you get past the initial shock and begin to look at is as a business move, it was shrewd and very good for the team in that sense.

How they handled informing Deron is another matter. That definitely strikes one as being close to underhanded as one can be. For sure sent a message to Deron that they felt he was being a little spoiled shit. That was a direct slap to the face of Deron. Deserved or not it displays a bit of a childish behavior towards a kid you might have the opportunity to bring back.

For the future files; Deron will not resign with the nets when his contract expires!

Too bad for Deron, he went from being big fish in small pond to being a guppy in a cesspool!

I don’t now if that was on purpose. It’s possible that someone leaked the story, and it broke on ESPN before it was finalized and management had a chance to call him? At least, I hope that’s the case.

Honestly, you put my thoughts into words, almost exactly (and I am not just saying that). Deron is amazing, but he is not a leader and his attitude (at least I felt) was tearing the team down. I have been having a really hard time with him these last couple of months; trying not to hate him, blame him, or be negative about him. Having him gone feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, I can breath easier. Deron seemed relieved as well.

Really, we got a lot of stuff for Deron and it was a smart move. I don’t get all the secrets, I guess it’s just the way the business works.

When Jerry and Phil stepped down, it was hard for me, really hard. Other Jazz fans were making fun of me and saying I was a little too dramatic. Now they are all freaking out, and again I find myself defending my views. Oh, well.

I am worried about what this means for the team and the fans. It reminds me of a video about a double rainbow and “What does it mean” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQSNhk5ICTI (not the original, but you’ll get the idea) I find myself to be a lost Jazz fan, “What does this mean?”

As for the game last night, I expected the same results with or without Deron. I love Watson!!

My next order of business: Choke CJ until he realizes his potential as a player and stops losing to the mental head game. I have lost patience with the little guy, almost 6 years in the making. If CJ were as confident/arrogant/cocky as say, Kobe or LeBron, he would be a damn good player. We need him to be a shooter.
    OMSW hurts worse than Deron…
    Too much, I know.
    The End

I think that’s an issue all Jazz fans are struggling with. What does it mean and are we still us, or just like every other team?

I agree that we need CJ to be a [consistent] shooter, but at the same time he’s so much more effective when he takes it inside aggressively and start off with some easy buckets!

Never too much :) Glad to hear what you have to say.
