Game 81 @ the Dubs: Where’s the killer instinct I ordered?

April 14, 2010

Big ups to OMSW, Ronnie P, Sap and CJ for sinking their teeth into the Warriors and getting it done. The four young guys outplayed and outhustled the older guys* in every way:
–OMSW not only made huge shots, but had an AKesque line of 16-5-4-2s-3b;
–Ronnie P is pure, unadulterated hustle. He had 14-6-9, and is playing the best PG ball of his career;
–Sap managed to not let the refs get to him (which Deron has not yet learned to do) and collected 24 rebounds in 33 minutes to go with 10 points;
–CJ played smart, took it to the hole, and even rebounded the ball (7). What more can you ask for from him?

*Except Memo, who was back and fortunately in “successful scoring mode.”

“The hair’s gone, I think it was slowing me down a little bit…I feel good.” — Ronnie P

Deron and Boozer, on the other hand, were largely invisible. Boozer played only 12 minutes before leaving the game with a rib injury from sneezing (according to TazzJazzFan), and one or two good plays aside, was far off his game tonight.

I was really disappointed in the way the Jazz came out tonight. They’d had three days off, but were sluggish and lethargic. They were playing for seeding, but were going through the motions and didn’t seem to understand not only the crucial importance of this game, but the crucial importance of going into the Playoffs on a high. Where was the killer instinct? Nowhere to be found. They almost let Devean “Check Out My Abs” George singlehandedly take them down. This is, once again, yet another time I think some veteran leadership and toughness could have made a difference.

Ending on a positive note: First winning road record in a decade (and since Stockton to Malone were in uniform)…we seriously need to ditch the baby blues.

    You’ve praised the right places and stomped your feet at the right places, very good.

    Sap played out of his mind last night, I will never figure out how he managed to NOT foul out though.

    The stupit reffs as usual did not disappoint me at all, I’ve seen the worst reffing of the entire season this past week. They seem to be operating on SpecialSternsRules, or SSR, applied to pre-playoff games.

    Disgusting is what it is really.
